Reporting to: Head of Interior Design and Partners

Role

A member of the Management Structure of Brewer Smith Brewer Gulf Interior Design Division, expected to run a design portfolio of projects independently, adhere, enforce and maintain agreed standards within the project teams and provide assistance to the Head of Interior Design and Senior Management to improve the overall performance of the Interior Design Division.

Responsibilities

General
The applicant should have a high level of skill with the following software:

  • Sketchup 3D
  • Enscape
  • Lumion
  • AutoCAD
  • REVIT
  • Adobe Software Suite

Enquiries and proposals

  • Assist the Head of Interior Design or Partners, in providing all necessary information required in order to submit fee proposals. This could be an overview, scope, brief etc.
  • Review agreed fee proposals to understand and be fully aware of scope and deliverables. These to provide the basis of the brief.

Appraisals and brief

  • Provide a full and detailed appraisal of the project requirements as issued by the Client. This should be detailed enough to offer a full understanding of the project requirements and to ascertain the extent of resource required. This element to be discussed in detail with the Head of Interior Design / Lead Architect in charge of the project.
  • The information gained from the project RFP and appraisal should then be fed into the draft design brief. The Lead Interior Designer is to take sole ownership of this document which must be presented for comment and approval prior to beginning the next stage.

Concept and Schematic

  • A full project programme to be set up with the Senior Architect Interiors. To be approved by Head of Interior Design / Lead Architect.
  • Lead Interior Designer to fully develop the direction of the interior design and convey by means of mood boards, flavour statements and materials palettes etc. To be jointly carried out with the Lead Architect to the agreed programme.
  • Work closely with the Group Head of Design to understand the key architectural design principles and strategies of the project.
  • Client liaison alongside the Head of Interior Design / Lead Architect.
  • Sub consultant liaison agreeing deliverables, scope and timescales.
  • Presentation of concept. Deliverables to be reviewed on a project by project basis.
  • Attendance at meetings and file notes and actions of the meetings.
  • Coordination of Sub consultants, Senior Architect - Interiors and Junior Interior Designers.
  • Request for Design NOC s, affection plans etc.
  • Aid Head of Interior Design / Lead Architect to define brief for specialist sub consultants.
  • Tracking of client approvals.
  • Schematic design development with design team.
  • Local authority compliance and submission for approvals against programme.
  • Aid Head of Interior Design / Lead Architect to ensure each project tracking schedule is current, monitored and submitted on a weekly basis.
  • Carefully manage any value engineering and make Client aware of potential variations to Consultancy agreement. This is an important issue that must be managed well and not underestimated.

Detailed design

  • Orchestrate the detailed design package. Review progress daily with the Senior Architect - Interiors. Resolve all outstanding issues where Client input is required.
  • Oversee submissions for building permit and Civil Defence, with the support of others.
  • Responsible for reviewing the control book or specification prior to issue.
  • Review design information to ensure that the original Concept Design intent is maintained, with all materials and details correctly referenced and checked.
  • Ultimate responsibility for the issued information for each stage of the project therefore each information issue must be checked and approved by the Lead Interior Designer.

Tender stage

  • Selection with the team of a suitable procurement route to suit the Client's requirements.
  • Aid the Head of Interior Design / Lead Architect to propose tender list. Pre-qualify all tenderers.
  • Work with QS regarding BOQ and tender documents.
  • Assist in compiling the procurement strategy and compile a procurement programme.
  • Technical compliance review of all tenders.
  • Review tender report and propose successful tenderer to Head of Interior Design / Lead Architect for recommendation to the Client.

Post contract

  • Continuous link to pre-contract staff, Client and sub-consultants.

Management

Leadership

  • Decide objectives for Junior ID s and track.
  • Set the pace and Lead by example.

  • Provide opportunities for all staff members to develop through delegating responsibility.
  • Provide adequate support and an appropriate reporting structure to enable successful delegation.

  • Provide opportunities for staff.

General

  • The general performance of staff to be constantly reviewed.
  • Standard of draughting, letter writing, report writing to be reviewed by the Lead.
  • Ensure all time sheets are reviewed and signed off at the end of each week.
  • Agree staff leave and authorise through Associates.
  • Track sick leave/ absenteeism through administrator and report to Head of Interior Design.
  • Ensure timekeeping, punctuality, professionalism and appearance of staff on a daily basis.
