Position Title: Laundry Attendant

Department: Laundry

Grade: 4

Reports To: Laundry Supervisor

Staff reporting to: Nil

Position Summary - Basic Job Function:

Under the general direction of the Laundry Supervisor or designate, and within the limits of established Marriott brand and hotel policies and procedures, responsible for receiving, sorting and issuing of linen/Uniform.

Critical Tasks - Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receives, sorts, counts, stores and issues all F & B and room linen according to established procedures.
  • Assists in inventory taking.
  • Assists in repairing linen.
  • Reports damages and loss of linen/Uniform to supervisor.
  • Issues Uniform and Linen according to established procedures.
  • Maintains linen room and equipment in proper state of cleanliness and repair.
  • Maintains records of new linen, discard and issues.
  • Performs tasks as directed by the Manager in pursuit of the achievement of business goals.
  • Understands the hotel's facilities, products and services.
  • Attends meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required when performing work duties that may have the potential of risk to your health or safety. The hotel will provide the required PPE. Team members will be trained in the proper use and care of any assigned PPE. It is your responsibility to report defective, damaged or lost PPE, or equipment that does not fit properly, to your Manager.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Be at all times an ambassador of the Sheraton philosophy of friendliness in order to establish a professional contact with all guests.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by your manager. Assist in all areas outside of above, as needed or requested.

Critical Competencies:

Able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace. Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written. Must possess computer skills. Ability to prepare and analyze data figures and transcriptions prepared on and generated by computer. Working knowledge of state and local laws governing equal employment opportunity and civil rights, occupational safety and health, workers compensation, wage and hour issues, and labor relations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Grooming: Must maintain at all times a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per Sheraton Brand and Marriott International standards.
  • Education: High School diploma. Read, write & speak in English.
  • Related Job Experience: 6 months experience working with a 5-star hotel in Laundry/Housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred.

Confidentiality & Record Maintenance:

Ensuring all records are confidentially and accurately maintained, limiting the number of individuals permitted to access the records, and ensuring that no record leaves the Department.

Personal Hygiene:

Make certain that you have a well-groomed, well-dressed and clean appearance. Adhere, at all times, to Sheraton and Marriott grooming standards. In the hotel industry, it is particularly important to observe a high standard of personal hygiene, as many of us are in direct or indirect contact with food and/or guests. You may not smoke whilst you are on duty or in any areas where smoking is prohibited.

Financial Performance:

Seek opportunities for cost savings. Ensure accurate cost charges for proper budget. Ensure that all required signatures are obtained prior to payments. Be aware of any activities/events operating within the hotel in order to promote and maximize sales.

Employee Satisfaction:

Only use staff entrance to enter and leave the Hotel premises. Sign in/out using your hotel ID card, and adhere to instructions of security personnel while doing so. Assist other departments when required. Responsible for a clean and tidy working area.

Full adherence to UAE local laws and procedures. Be aware of all local Health, Safety & Fire regulations and abide by their terms. Maintain high standards of personal hygiene at all times. Demonstrate proper and safe usage of all equipment. Care in service to avoid accidents. Maintain a clean and tidy work area. Security in keys/micros (as applicable). Ensure cash/credit card security.
