Job description
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Ensure the contractor/s compliance with the standards and specifications of the contract documents.
  • Maintain records of the contractor human and equipment daily resources.
  • Undertake all site supervision and inspections when required or instructed by the Resident Engineer (RE) or the Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE).
  • Liaise and daily follow up with the contractor to ensure proper management of resources, health and safety, and equipment needs on the site.
  • Be familiar with the project’s contract documents, detailed drawings, specifications, and health and safety measures together with any associated updates.
  • Prepare daily report to the RE or ARE, including works orders, materials delivery, and daily inspections program.
  • Follow up and implement any site instructions made by the RE and ARE.
  • Apply and implement all quality controls and quality procedures of the site.
  • Prepare any site measurements and surveying checks needed by the RE or ARE for pipes alignments and levels.
  • Co-ordinate and co-operate with client project manager during their site inspections in the presence of the RE or ARE.
  • Monitor contractor QA/QC activities and maintain relevant records.
  • Assist the ARE and RE in the preparation of any correspondences in compliance with the contract documents and site requirements.
  • Where site problems are found, work with the RE or ARE to resolve them promptly.
  • Monitor the start-up, commissioning and handover of the site works, including maintaining records of the project milestones.
  • Maintain records of materials tests performed and executed works.
  • Audit inspections for conformity to contract documents and contractor submitted plans.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience within similar projects.
  • Middle East experience preferred.
  • Relevant experience in construction supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical Degree and/or equivalent.

Desired Candidate Profile

1. Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of Architectural and Landscape Design: Understanding architectural plans, blueprints, and landscape design specifications to verify compliance with the intended design.
  • Construction and Site Inspection: Ability to inspect the quality and integrity of construction or landscaping work, ensuring materials, methods, and finishes are as per approved plans and codes.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with local, state, and federal building codes, zoning laws, and environmental regulations (e.g., ADA, LEED, or other sustainability certifications).
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Assessing whether construction or landscape work meets predetermined quality standards, identifying defects or deviations.
  • Geospatial Knowledge: Understanding geographic information systems (GIS) or other tools to assess project locations, ensuring appropriate use of space in landscaping projects.

2. Analytical Skills

  • Problem-Solving: Identifying issues with construction or landscaping that may not meet specifications and determining the cause of those issues.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring every element of the architectural or landscape design is followed precisely, from the smallest detail to large-scale requirements.
  • Risk Assessment: Evaluating potential risks on-site, such as safety hazards, structural concerns, or environmental impacts, and taking corrective actions.

3. Communication Skills

  • Report Writing: Ability to write clear and concise inspection reports, documenting any issues found, deviations from plans, or violations of codes and regulations.
  • Interpersonal Communication: Effectively communicating with contractors, architects, landscapers, and project managers about issues or discrepancies found during inspections.
  • Client Interaction: Communicating directly with clients or stakeholders to update them on project progress or issues, offering clear explanations of the inspection findings.

4. Project Management Skills

  • Time Management: Managing time efficiently to handle multiple inspections, report writing, and coordination tasks without compromising quality.
  • Coordination and Scheduling: Collaborating with various teams to schedule inspections at appropriate stages of the project, ensuring that all aspects of construction or landscaping are verified in a timely manner.

5. Safety Awareness

  • Site Safety: Recognizing potential safety hazards on construction or landscaping sites and ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA guidelines).
  • Environmental Impact: Ensuring that the landscape designs or construction methods do not negatively impact the environment and comply with sustainability standards.

6. Industry-Specific Knowledge

  • Landscape Architecture Knowledge: Understanding landscaping principles, plant types, hardscape materials, irrigation systems, soil types, and other landscaping elements to verify design and installation.
  • Construction Methods: Familiarity with construction practices, materials, and techniques used in building structures, roads, and public spaces.
  • Sustainability and Green Building Practices: Knowledge of eco-friendly and sustainable design principles such as water conservation, energy-efficient landscaping, or the use of native plants.
  • Design Review and Compliance: Ensuring that projects adhere to design standards and are in compliance with municipal regulations or zoning laws.
