Job description

We have a great opportunity for a talented Junior Sommelier to join our Bord Eau Restaurant team. The successful applicant will have a love for food and a passion for organisation and presentation; they will assist in the smooth day-to-day running of the department. Bord Eau is a classical French cuisine elevated by the very best produce. Artfully plated dishes paired with the finest wines promise a meal to remember at this Louis XIII décor inspired restaurant.

What are we looking for?

  • Responsible for recommending, taking orders, selling, and serving wines and other beverages.
  • Responsible for recommending food and beverage pairings to ensure and enhance guest satisfaction.
  • Assist in arranging wine dinner events including contract preparation, wine sales proposal and menu wine pairing.
  • Manage and update wine lists, maintaining accurate wine sales records and control stock levels for the restaurant.
  • Curate special dinners, theme nights and provide high standards and professional services in meeting guests' expectations.
  • Organize, stock, wine orders and par level inventory.
  • Co-leads, trains and promotes the service experience including beverage knowledge.
  • Helps to drive beverage revenue in the restaurant and maintain the beverage costs within the budget.
  • Review and analyse sales to ensure stock rotation and profitability remains within targets.
  • Previous experience in luxury hospitality/customer service.
  • Lives and breathes the Shangri-La Values.

What will you do?

  • Preferably a college graduate with experience in Food & Beverage, Wine Study or Hospitality Management.
  • Preferably with minimum 3 years relevant experience, preferably in fine dining restaurants or 5-star hotels.
  • International knowledge on various wines and spirits. Preferably with Wine certification (WSET, ISG, Court of Master Sommelier or ASI).
  • Fluent in oral and written English.
  • Has good organizational and coordination skills.
  • Outgoing and people-oriented.
  • Motivator, self-starter, and a team-builder.
  • Displays initiative and commitment to professional values.
  • Interact with clients and understand their needs.
  • Empathetically listen to client queries/complaints and work with colleagues/Service Manager to find solutions.
