Junior Dock Master

The Dock Master works as a member of a 24/7 shift system that provides the marina with operational and interactive berth-holder assistance. Most of the time will be spent out of the office in assisting owners and their boats, attending various check-list items such as maintenance and safety duties in the marina area. His work will revolve around marina reception, booking-in visiting yachts, accepting payments, issuing keys, handling new business inquiries, answering the VHF and telephone calls as required.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assisting owners and crews with yacht berthing and un-berthing.
2. Ensuring that vessels in the marina are at all times securely moored and protected from damage with adequate protection.
3. Ensuring that no hazard is caused by mooring lines, electricity cables, water hoses, boat overhangs, or materials on the pontoons / quays.
4. Towing and line-handling with the marina workboat.
5. Assisting owners and crews with car-parking, baggage handling, and other services as they may reasonably request.
6. Checking berth occupancy and license validity, monitoring electricity and water usage.
7. Carrying and tidying buildings (including restrooms when no cleaner is on duty) while maintaining a high standard of hygiene and appearance.
8. Ensuring that marina users obey the Marina Rules.
9. Operation of the fuel dock when the fuel dock attendant is absent.
10. Booking of yachts, allocating berths, issuing berthing licenses and invoices, receiving payment and issuing receipts.
11. Liaising with government authorities (i.e. police, customs, and immigration) when needed.
12. Issuing keys and security passes and monitoring the security system of the marina area (includes making security patrols at night).
13. Maintaining and keeping up to date all diaries and other records.
14. Ability to use the computerized Marina Management System.
15. Complying with the Health and Safety Policy and good working practices while ensuring that the company guidelines are being followed.
16. Complying with company regulations regarding dress code and well-mannered behavior and offering a personable service to customers to enhance the reputation of the marina.
17. Assisting with boat handling and boatyard operation (i.e. boat hoist).
18. Complying with all marina systems and procedures.
19. Assisting at special events, exhibitions, and promotions.
20. Assisting the management and other staff with other matters as required.
21. Performing other tasks assigned by the Marina Manager or Marina In-charge.

Requisite Qualifications:

Secondary School

Dock Master experience is required, preferably with accreditation in a leading marina operator.

Experience Requirement:

Secondary School with 2-4 Years of Experience

Skill Sets:

1. A good general knowledge of boats, boat-handling, knots, and splices, preferably with an appropriate certificate of competency.
2. Knowledge of marina environment, maintenance, berth arrangement, and vessel handling.
3. Computer literate and able to operate PC-based Marina Management System.
4. Willing to be trained in VHF radio, first aid, and firefighting.
5. Pleasing personality, articulate, and able to relate well to customers and other members of staff and management.
6. Able to maintain forms and records accurately and neatly.
7. Experience in boat hoist, dry stack, and other marina operations.
8. Physically fit and able to perform strenuous tasks.
9. Proficient swimmer.
10. Foreign language skills are considered an advantage.
11. Good English communication and writing skills.
12. Able to work accurately with minimal supervision.
