IT System Expert Unix and Open Shift - UAE

Our client is one of the leading providers of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) service providers is currently looking for experienced IT System Expert (Unix and Open Shift).

Location: United Arab Emirates.

Job Role:

  1. We are now looking for a subject matter expert for the Unix, Infrastructure Cloud and OpenShift domains.
  2. This selected person would be responsible for Level 2 support and execution of IT Infra Operation activities within Managed Services setup to ensure that the services provided to the customer(s) are as per the contracted Service Level Agreement (SLA) performance levels.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Be part of the Cloud, OpenShift, Linux and Unix team working onsite for One of the largest operators in Dubai from customer-site and responsible to get work done from remote teams.
  2. Administer and maintain Linux/UNIX based servers and environments (RHEL, CentOS, SUSE, HP-UNIX, Solaris).
  3. Design, implement, and support OpenShift clusters and container orchestration.
  4. Work with DevOps teams to deploy applications and manage containerized workloads on OpenShift.
  5. Ensure optimal performance, security, and scalability of Linux systems and OpenShift clusters.
  6. Troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues, including hardware, software, and networking.
  7. Implement automation scripts (using Bash, Python, Ansible) for system administration tasks.
  8. Configuration automation on Ansible and Ansible automation platform.
  9. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior system administrators.
  10. Ensure backup, disaster recovery, and system availability strategies are in place and tested.
  11. Monitor system performance, logs, and metrics to proactively identify and address potential issues.
  12. Collaborate with network and storage teams to ensure efficient resource management.
  13. Manage system updates, patches, and vulnerability remediation for both Linux and OpenShift environments.
  14. Work with the security team to implement hardening and compliance procedures for Linux systems and OpenShift deployments.
  15. Responsible for infrastructure operation and ensuring the availability of the platform.
  16. Support in troubleshooting, OpenShift issues, deployment, CICD, Ceph, tools integration related to infrastructure.
  17. OpenShift version upgrade, installing and troubleshooting operators, hardware and Ceph storage.
  18. Firmware upgrade.
  19. Operating patching and version upgrade.
  20. Operating system performance tuning.
  21. Support in troubleshooting issues and fixing the problem and proposing the possible solution.
  22. Ensuring the infrastructure is up to date by mitigating the vulnerability and patches and plan the required upgrade with minimal downtime.
  23. Coordinate with different stakeholders, application team, vendor part of infrastructure operation.
  24. Identifying, Planning, and preparing automation use case based on shell script and Ansible.
  25. Troubleshooting.
  26. RCA preparation and presentation.
  27. Preparing, Planning and Executing Changes in the customer environment.
  28. Provide technical support and assistance to team.
  29. Participate in customer’s Infra Planning projects related to your domain.
  30. Assistance as consultant in customer’s presentations, documentation, and workshops.
  31. Support other on-site integration engineers during installation, acceptance, and diagnosis activities.
  32. Manage customer technical requests and regularly update customer on progress.
  33. Provide an effective 360-degree feedback on the ailing elements in the current solution and coordinate with Design team/L3/ Vendor to fix them.
  34. Monitoring various server performance parameters like CPU, Memory, I/O, and disk space.
  35. Maintaining OS configuration for (Linux/UNIX; RedHat OpenShift; RHEL/Solaris).
  36. Creating new file systems and correcting file system inconsistencies as and when required.
  37. Maintenance of ACL and files/folder permissions.
  38. Collecting and preparing various server-related reports as and when required.
  39. User administration and maintain password policies and ensure compliance to security guidelines.

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  1. Deep technical skills to manage the queries and plan of recovery of system during any critical incident resolution including troubleshooting & restoration of operating system in the event of a crash.
  2. Linux and OpenShift certification.
  3. Build (over time) understanding around customer’s environment to be able to do proper business impact assessment.
  4. Experience with ITSM ticketing tool (HPSM is desirable).
  5. Soft skills to be able to work with your stakeholders (customer, manager, and peers).
  6. Good verbal and email skills to be able to coordinate with different teams.
  7. Desire to learn new things.
  8. Log & coordinate with different vendors for ongoing SRs.
  9. Basic understanding of virtualization and automation concepts.

Qualifications & Experience:

  1. Engineering Graduate in Computer Science or similar.
  2. 8+ years of experience in IT Operations - Infrastructure System Admin in the areas like Unix, Linux, OpenShift, NFVI, SDN and Cloud.
  3. Exposure in Telecom and IT Managed Services preferred.

Technical Skills and Certification:

  1. Linux, Unix (Solaris/HP-UX), Kubernetes.
  2. RedHat OpenShift experience and certification is must.
  3. RedHat OpenStack.
  4. Shell Scripting, Python.
  5. Tools like Ansible, CI/CD (Argo CD).
