Job Description

Job Summary: Responsible for identification and design of basic & detail engineering of control & instrumentation systems for new build platforms/vessels such as Oil & Gas Offshore platforms, rigs, oil tankers, bulk carriers, passenger vessels, small vessels etc. Also responsible for providing engineering support on major conversion projects such as FPSO, FSO and FSRU.

Responsibilities:

  1. Implement approved departmental policies, processes, procedures, provide instructions to subordinates, and monitor their adherence so that work is carried out in a controlled manner.
  2. Ensure employees are aware and follow the information security rules and data security measures to protect the company information/intellectual properties.
  3. Develop control system architecture for DCS/PLC/SCADA, ESD, F&G/SIL systems.
  4. Produce basic and detail engineering deliverables for instrumentation engineering based on project-specific design standards and requirements by classification society as applicable.
  5. Prepare project deliverables such as IO list, SLDs, schematic, cable sizing, data sheets, layout drawings, various instrumentation calculations as per overall project schedules/milestones.
  6. Control and monitor manpower and keep track records on progress of deliverables.
  7. Identify, select, and design instrumentation system/equipment for projects, as required.
  8. Develop datasheets/RFQ for control valves, ESD valves, blow-down valves, pressure safety valves, and field instruments.
  9. Select control valves, ESD valves, blow-down valves, pressure safety valves.
  10. Select electro-pneumatic process instruments & control systems, which include flow/level/pressure/temperature - transmitters/switches/gauges.
  11. Select analyzers, custody-measurement equipment/sampling systems, fusible loop systems, pneumatic/hydraulic & electronic controllers.
  12. Experience with major control system vendors from technical bidding stage till installation and commissioning completion.
  13. Undertake design and calculations of the following systems: process instrumentation, instruments and valve packages, fire and gas system, safety systems and ESD system, entertainment system, navigation system, LAN and WiFi system, access control system, crude oil laboratory equipment, CCTV system, public address and general alarm (PAGA) system, galley fire suppression system, man trap alarm, hospital calling system.
  14. Develop process control system, ESD and F&G philosophies.
  15. Estimate man-hours and materials for delegated aspects of work.
  16. Control manhours and engineering budget optimization.
  17. Conduct site audits, supplier audits (in conjunction with procurement), risk assessment and training as required.
  18. Stay up-to-date with the latest industry developments, trends, and technologies related to instrumentation and telecom systems and equipment.
  19. Evaluate and recommend new instrumentation engineering technology, industrial standards, practice, and technology.
  20. Carry out coverage study of F&G, LAN, PAGA, CCTV.
  21. Ensure procurement activity by preparing PRs/MRs, coordinate vendor for timely document submission, coordinate and attend FAT, ensure material delivery as per project schedule.
  22. Implement the day-to-day operations assigned for the engineering department/section to ensure compliance with the established standards and procedures.

Desired Candidate Profile:

  1. Fully trained and knowledgeable with relevant safety and occupational health & safety standards.
  2. Knowledge of designing of control & instrumentation systems in basic, detail and production stages for systems of marine/offshore platforms etc.
  3. Knowledge in developing control narratives and functional diagrams for DCS, ESD and PES.
  4. Knowledge of international standards & codes and safety measures related to ISA, IEC, ASME, API, NEC, BS, EN, ISO and NFPA standards.
  5. Strong background with resolution of technical issues during projects planning and execution phases.
  6. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
  7. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and successfully execute tasks in accordance with departmental project objectives.
  8. Project management skill is an added advantage.

Education:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Control & Instrumentation Engineering or Electronic/Electrical Engineering.
  2. Master’s Degree in relevant field.

Training:

  1. Proficient with software such as InstruCalc, In Tools.
  2. Control Systems: DCS, PLC/SCADA, Protocols, Networks, ESD and F&G Systems.
  3. Project Management Experience.
  4. 8-10 years relevant experience in a shipyard, offshore/Oil & Gas industry in design office.
