HVAC Technician

To carry out effective and efficient repair and maintenance of customer vehicles (Trucks / Buses & Heavy Commercial Vehicles) following the approved manufacturers repair techniques.

Roles & Responsibilities :

• Collect job orders and the necessary materials / tools / equipment, to carry out the repairs and maintenance on the customers vehicles in accordance with the manufacturers repair techniques.
• Ensure accurate fault diagnosis and effective utilization of time allocated for the repairs. Report to Team Leader of any delays in repairs due to unavailability of parts or any other reason.
• Ensure all additional repairs are authorized; parts are booked to the repair order. In case of warranty repair / parts exchange program, return removed part to the parts department in the same carton to facilitate audit processes and getting necessary credit if applicable. In case of retail jobs keep the old parts inside the vehicle except batteries and parts which may cause stain on the interior trim / carpet of the vehicle.
• Service personal tools, keep the lifts and work area clean and comply with the health and safety standards.
• Upgrade knowledge by regularly doing web-based courses and by attending classroom trainings.
• Keep all personal tools safe. Any breakages or accidents must be reported to the Team Leader / Supervisor immediately / Tool room for replacement.
• Ensure efficiency and productivity is maintained above 100%.
• Ensure proper clocking on / off in the system and do write up in the repair order as per the prescribed procedure.
• Any unused parts must be returned or stored properly as per company procedure. Used parts must be disposed in an environmentally friendly manner.
• To work extra hours in case the job needs to be completed to ensure customer satisfaction as per Team Leader’s requirement.

Qualifications & Experience :

• Industrial Technical Institute ITI (2 years vocational course) - Certified Auto Technician Course – Diesel Mechanic
• Experience in Heavy Trucks / Buses & Commercial Vehicles
• 3 to 5 years’ experience as technician
• Must be able to communicate fluently in English
• Should be able to carry out all kinds of Mechanical Repairs including advanced diagnosing, troubleshooting of complex issues.

Key Responsibilities of a Heavy Truck Technician:

• Identifying mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools.
• Interpreting fault codes and technical manuals to pinpoint problems.

Maintenance :

• Conducting routine inspections and preventative maintenance, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication.
• Ensuring vehicles meet safety and operational standards.
• Performing engine, transmission, brake, and suspension repairs.
• Fixing electrical systems, air conditioning units, and hydraulics.
• Welding and fabricating parts as needed.

Running performance tests on engines and systems post-repair:

• Adjusting systems to ensure optimal efficiency.

Record Keeping :

• Maintaining detailed service and repair records.
• Logging parts used and work performed for accountability and compliance.

Compliance and Safety :

• Ensuring vehicles comply with transportation regulations and emissions standards.
• Adhering to workplace safety protocols and using personal protective equipment (PPE).

Customer Service :

• Communicating with clients about repair needs, timelines, and costs.
• Providing advice on proper vehicle care and maintenance schedules.

Key Skills for a Heavy Truck Technician:

• Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of internal combustion engines, transmissions, and braking systems.
• Electrical Systems: Knowledge of vehicle wiring, sensors, and electronic control units (ECUs).
• Familiarity with hydraulic systems used in heavy trucks.
• Proficiency in using tools: like diagnostic scanners (e.g., Snap-on, Bosch), multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Quickly identifying root causes of issues and implementing effective solutions.
• Physical Stamina and Dexterity: Ability to work in physically demanding environments, lifting heavy parts, and working in tight spaces.
• Attention to Detail: Precision in repairs to ensure safety and functionality of vehicles.
• Communication Skills: Explaining technical issues and solutions clearly to clients and team members.
• Time Management: Efficiently prioritizing and managing multiple repair tasks under tight deadlines.
