HVAC Design Engineer

Roles and Responsibilities

1. HVAC System Design: Expertise in designing heating, cooling, and ventilation systems tailored to specific project needs.
2. Load Calculations: Proficiency in performing cooling and heating load calculations to determine system requirements.
3. Ductwork and Piping Layouts: Designing efficient layouts for ductwork, piping, and related components.
4. Equipment Selection: Knowledge of HVAC equipment, including chillers, boilers, heat pumps, and air handling units.
5. Energy Efficiency: Designing systems that optimize energy usage and comply with sustainability standards.

Software and Technical Tools

1. Design Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar tools for drafting and modeling.
2. Load Calculation Tools: Experience with software like HAP (Hourly Analysis Program) or TRACE 700.
3. Building Information Modeling (BIM): Familiarity with BIM processes for collaborative design.
4. CFD Analysis: Using computational fluid dynamics tools for airflow simulation.
5. MS Excel: Creating detailed calculations and equipment schedules.

Knowledge of Codes and Standards

1. HVAC Standards: Understanding ASHRAE, SMACNA, and other industry standards.
2. Building Codes: Knowledge of local, national, and international building codes and regulations.
3. Fire Safety: Designing systems in compliance with fire safety and ventilation codes.
4. Indoor Air Quality: Ensuring designs meet health and comfort standards for indoor environments.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

1. System Optimization: Identifying ways to improve system performance and efficiency.
2. Troubleshooting: Resolving design issues related to airflow, temperature control, or mechanical components.
3. Cost Analysis: Balancing performance with budget constraints during system design.
4. Site Analysis: Evaluating space requirements, existing conditions, and environmental factors.

Project Management Skills

1. Time Management: Meeting deadlines for designs, approvals, and deliverables.
2. Coordination: Collaborating with architects, structural engineers, and other stakeholders.
3. Resource Planning: Ensuring efficient use of materials and manpower in the design process.
4. Documentation: Preparing design reports, submittals, and equipment schedules.

Desired Candidate Profile

Perform drafting activities using AutoCAD or other drafting tools based on inputs from Design Engineer/Lead Engineers.

Day-to-Day Operations:

• Carry out drafting activities based on design inputs provided by Design Engineers.
• Prepare layouts, detailed drawings, production/construction drawings, and MTOs/bill of quantities.
• Carry out site measurements for preparation of drawings and incorporating changes and comments.
• Liaise with other design/drafting personnel to identify/incorporate interfaces.
• Follow DDW-D and project-specific drawing and document control procedures.
• Ensure comments/changes are properly tracked and incorporated.
• Store/file drawings and documents in the order as per relevant procedure.
• Support procurement and fabrication/construction activities, keep track of redline mark-ups, as-built documentation, etc.

Essential

Education: ITI/+2 or Diploma in any discipline.

Training: Advanced knowledge in AutoCAD and Drafting Tools, MS Office.

Experience: 5 years of relevant experience in drafting/modeling field.

Desirable

Education: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.

Training: Experience in using CADMATIC, PDMS, or other 3D software.

Experience: Experience in EPC projects, particularly in Oil & Gas/Marine.
