The American University of Sharjah invites applicants for a full-time faculty position at the rank of professor who will also serve as Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi Endowed Chair in Women’s Leadership. The successful candidate is expected to promote interdisciplinary research, innovative teaching, and community engagement in women's leadership, advancing understanding of leadership dynamics, gender equity, and empowerment. Priority will be given to candidates who are distinguished scholars with a significant body of work addressing challenges, practices, and strategies in women’s leadership across sectors. The Endowed Chair will play a key role in advancing the university mission to foster an inclusive environment, advocating for women’s empowerment and social equity. The selected candidate will be appointed to a full-time, rolling-track faculty position within an academic department that aligns with their area of expertise.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

The Endowed Chair in Women’s Leadership is expected to have a PhD in one of the disciplines represented in the four colleges/school at AUS; a distinguished record of outstanding intellectual contributions in research and education in Women's Leadership, including women's studies and advancement, evidenced by high scholarly productivity and impact; an international professional reputation; excellence in teaching record; cultural and regional awareness; and proven leadership capability. Existing publications in top-tier management journals are a plus. A successful candidate should be willing and able to teach across the curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct and publish original research with an explicit focus on women’s leadership and advancement, women in multicultural and complex societies, or social justice and women’s advancement in the UAE and Gulf.
  2. Build intellectual community and provide leadership in Women's Studies through outreach activities that bring the community in direct contact with scholarly experts, including public discussions, workshops, and symposiums.
  3. Develop innovative leadership programs for women designed to allow them to benefit from the latest leadership insights and to identify their personal strategies to develop confidence, influence, and resilience to rise above harmful political, social, and cultural norms.
  4. Advocate for women's issues and gender equality within the academic community.
  5. Operate within his/her resident department as a regular faculty member, involving full interaction with other faculty members, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, producing impactful research, overseeing student supervision and mentoring, and other service assignments.
  6. Provide annual reports to NAMA Women Advancement Establishment (NAMA) detailing accomplishments and activities. Additionally, provide insights on women skills development opportunities to support NAMA Programs design and development phases; invite NAMA to events, opportunities, lectures, and conferences related to Chair activities to enhance collaboration and knowledge exchange; partner with NAMA to co-organize workshops or events under our Irtiqa initiative, promoting gender diversity in the private sector, by assisting either with content design, delivery methods, and/or speaker recommendations.
