Responsible and accountable for driving heavy truck to transport and deliver cargo.
Maintain radio or telephone contact with base or supervisor to receive instructions or be dispatched to new location.
Witness the loading and unloading of cargo in the truck and ensure that they are in good condition.
Ensure that the number of pallets tally with customer shipping documents.
Position blocks and tie ropes around items to secure cargo for transport.
Ensure that only accurate PODs are signed by the customer and the driver.
Keep the vehicle clean and check the condition of tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure everything is in working order.
Report any vehicle malfunctions or needed repairs.
Comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
Maintain knowledge of first-aid procedures.
Prepare and submit reports that may include the number of trips, hours worked, mileage, and fuel consumption.
Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations, using telephones or mobile two-way radios.
