What you'll do:
The Head of Buying - Sports will be responsible for developing and executing the buying strategy for the sports category at Namshi. This role involves overseeing the selection, procurement, and management of sports merchandise, ensuring that the product offering aligns with market trends and customer preferences. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the sports retail landscape, strong analytical skills, and the ability to lead a dynamic buying team.
Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement the buying strategy for the sports category, aligning it with Namshi's overall business goals and objectives.
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, customer preferences, and competitive landscape in the sports retail sector.
Product Selection and Procurement:
- Manage the selection and procurement of sports merchandise, ensuring a diverse and appealing product range that meets customer demands.
- Negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive pricing, favorable terms, and timely delivery of products.
Inventory Management:
- Oversee inventory levels, ensuring optimal stock levels to meet customer demand while minimizing excess stock and markdowns.
- Analyze sales data and market trends to forecast demand and adjust buying strategies accordingly.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the buying team, fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity, and accountability.
- Set performance goals and metrics for the buying team, conducting regular performance evaluations and providing constructive feedback.
Collaboration and Cross-Functional Engagement:
- Work closely with marketing, merchandising, and e-commerce teams to develop promotional strategies that drive sales and enhance brand awareness.
- Collaborate with the design and product development teams to ensure alignment between buying decisions and product offerings.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Stay updated on supplier performance and market changes, making adjustments to buying strategies as necessary.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare regular reports on buying performance, inventory levels, and sales trends for senior management.
- Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions and continuously improve the buying process.
What you'll need:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Merchandising, Fashion, or a related field. An MBA is a plus.
- 6+ years of experience in buying, merchandising, or a related field, with a focus on sports retail preferred.
- Strong understanding of the sports market, including trends, customer behavior, and competitive landscape.
- Proven experience in managing and leading a buying team, with a track record of achieving sales and margin targets.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing business needs.
