Job description

At Mamoura British Academy, the Director of Learning and Teaching is a non-class based role focused on the continual improvement of learning and teaching from EYFS to Year 13. Key components comprise teacher development, improving standards, and ensuring pedagogical approaches are used to develop best practices in learning and teaching.

A. Strategic direction and development of learning and teaching across the school

  1. Create and implement the vision for learning and teaching across the Academy and be fully accountable for the impact of this.
  2. Ensure that the Mamoura British Academy Teacher and Learner DNA are upheld by all stakeholders and effectively implemented across the Academy.
  3. Be responsible for the learning and teaching aspect of Performance Standard 3 within the UAE inspection framework with respect to SEF writing, the School Development Plan, and school inspections.
  4. Develop, implement, and monitor the Continued Professional Development (CPD) programme for staff across the Academy.
  5. Implement the Monitoring, Evaluation and Review (MER) programme across the Academy, quality assure processes, and ensure that targeted feedback is provided to Heads of Departments and Heads of Years (HoDs and HoYs).
  6. Produce quantitative and qualitative reporting on the MER programme to the Executive Leadership Team and make recommendations on the next steps for the school.
  7. Design, implement, and monitor the school's termly observation cycle and provide updates on the outcomes and next steps of the process to the Executive Leadership Team.
  8. Work with HoDs in developing schemes of work, policy documents, and development plans aligned to learning and teaching.
  9. Be responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of the whole school BYOD and Device Strategy.
  10. Undertake policy development and review for all policies linked to learning and teaching.

B. Learning and teaching

  1. Oversee CPD sessions and the Learning Communities programme.
  2. Undertake collaborative planning, teaching, and mentoring of specifically identified teachers.
  3. Provide learning and teaching tips for the whole staff.
  4. Implement and maintain a learning and teaching database that showcases examples of best practice in planning, teaching, and marking.
  5. Organise CPD learning showcases.
  6. Provide planned opportunities for moderation between phases of the school and between other Aldar Education British Curriculum Schools.
  7. Share educational literature that showcases the most current educational practice.
  8. Undertake learning walks and drop-ins around Lower, Middle, and Senior School to evaluate the impact of initiatives.
  9. Quality assure PD sessions within subjects.
  10. Lead the Teaching Assistant CPD and performance management programme.

C. Leading and managing staff

  1. Lead the Learning and Teaching Curriculum Action Group (CAG).
  2. Lead the Innovation CAG.
  3. Line management of the Ed Tech Coach.
  4. Line management of the Academy Librarians.
  5. Line management support link to allocated departments as directed.
  6. Lead on G&T provision across the school.
  7. Coordinate ECT and ECT assessments.
  8. Be a member of the Lower School and Middle & Senior school leadership teams (PLT & MSLT).

D. Other duties and responsibilities

  1. Be an Academic Mentor to Year 11 and Year 13 students.
  2. Lead ELT, PLT, and MSLT presentations as required.
  3. Undertake duties as part of the staff duty rota.
  4. Fulfil teaching responsibilities as needed to support the education team.
  5. Invigilate examinations as required, including a minimum of one evening and one weekend external examination session.
  6. Work with Heads of Innovation and Industry on the development of industry and innovation.
  7. Work closely with the Academy of Excellence Lead and Head of Inclusion to promote G&T provision across the school.
  8. Any other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. A Bachelor degree in Education or a Bachelor of Arts with PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.

Minimum Experience

  1. Minimum 6 years of teaching experience in the English National Curriculum.
  2. Experience across Primary and Secondary age ranges desirable.
