The candidate will be based in UAE and have the primary responsibility for heading the First Line of Defense & Middle Office function which will be responsible for the coordination, execution, enhancement, and oversight of the control framework while driving operational excellence and risk management across the organization. This will be the primary focus with the intention of growing this to a fully operational Middle Office control function. Working closely with the business and the entire GM ecosystem, the role ensures compliance with internal policies, regulatory standards, and helps to safeguard the integrity and profitability of the firm's Global Markets business.
Key Accountabilities:
GM Control Design and Implementation:
Design and implement controls across the GM end-to-end trade life cycle ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
Conduct regular assessments of business activities and processes to identify and detect vulnerabilities, areas for enhancement, risks, and control weaknesses, and recommend solutions to mitigate risk.
Collaborate with internal teams to optimize processes, implementing risk mitigation strategies where necessary.
Instruct and educate accountable owners via continuous assessment to implement recommended controls as BAU.
GM Risk & Control Governance:
Own the GM Risk Governance framework and perform periodic risk appetite assessments.
Establish a GM risk and control library at a desk level.
Undertake Supervisory attestation (accountable risk and control owner).
Ensure regulatory requirements are met including compliance with internal policies and best practices.
Collaborate with all LoBs in identifying and remediating control gaps.
Chair regular committee meetings.
GM Trade Monitoring:
Undertake Preventative vs. detective trade monitoring.
Monitor and report breach events.
Track implementation of action/remediation plans.
Collaborate with Internal Teams:
Work closely with Trading Operations, Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management teams to strengthen control environments.
Liaise with the Second Line of Defense (risk management compliance) and Third Line (internal audit) to facilitate risk reviews and audits.
Regulatory and Audit:
Work closely with the relevant stakeholders and business to ensure all required regulatory requirements and adherence is met.
Monitor and follow up on all audit requirements and observations and work on their remediation in a timely manner.
Managerial Duties: You may be assigned a managerial duty which can extend to managing an assigned intern, graduate, or individual/team.
Qualifications :
Minimum degree in Accounting, Economics, Banking, or Financial Management or equivalent Bachelors/Masters or equivalent professional certification.
Proven regional experience of 10-15 years working in Financial Markets in a similar capacity.
Knowledge of Global Market products including risks and controls.
Familiarity with financial regulations and experience in regulatory reporting requirements.
Excellent Excel skills and experience working with large datasets and financial models.
High level of attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present to senior stakeholders.
