The Role – Job description

Key Accountabilities:

  • Represent areas of knowledge, understanding, and skills to students.

  • Use excellent subject knowledge and interpersonal skills to enthuse students.
  • Make full use of ICT and new technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Plan lessons considering students’ individual learning needs and styles.
  • Encourage all students to become effective, confident, and independent learners.
  • Maintain excellent professional relationships with colleagues.
  • Plan and deliver a programme of learning opportunities.
  • Cooperate with colleagues to establish fair disciplinary practices.
  • Communicate professionally with parents about their child's progress.
  • Model good academic practices.
  • Contribute actively to department discussions.
  • Plan after-school activities as required.
  • Support the school partnership with the community.
  • Contribute to the development of high-quality education.
  • Ensure all students fulfil their potential.

Teaching

  • Plan and prepare schemes of work.
  • Teach effectively, considering all students’ educational needs.
  • Set and mark work for students in various settings.
  • Promote the various abilities and aptitudes of students.
  • Document and report on the personal and social needs of students.
  • Participate in whole school development.

Continuing Professional Development

  • Review methods of teaching and programmes of work.
  • Be proactive in personal development.
  • Participate in further training and professional development.

Curriculum Development

  • Advise on the preparation and development of courses of study.
  • Take responsibility for specific subjects.
  • Embed UAE heritage and culture within the curriculum.

Additional duties as Head of department:

  • Ensure teaching meets the school’s targets for progress.
  • Manage the curriculum ensuring it is innovative and engaging.
  • Lead CPD using current educational thinking.
  • Ensure students make progress in assessments.
  • Maintain a positive and respectful ethos.
  • Ensure the curriculum is inclusive and learner-led.
  • Communicate with families about learning issues.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Education: Relevant UK teaching qualification: minimum of a Bed. or BA/BSc + PGCE/QTS in Business and/or Economics.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of secondary teaching experience and at least 2 years in a leadership role in a British school.

  • Excellent working knowledge of the UK Curriculum.
  • Excellent IT and communication skills.
  • A collaborative team player with excellent personal skills.
  • Classroom and behaviour management.
