One of the leading Pediatric / Children's hospitals is currently looking for a Genomic Scientist for the UAE location who will analyze clinical genomic data and assess the biological impact of genomic variants focusing on their association with constitutional genetic disorders in a pediatric diagnostic setting. Working within a highly skilled team of molecular technologists, bioinformaticians, genetic counselors, and a Laboratory Director, this role reports directly to the Laboratory Director Genomics.
Core Responsibilities:
Genomic Data Analysis:
- Analyze chromosome microarray results and NGS-based tests (e.g. targeted panel whole exome sequencing).
- Assess data quality using methods like Sanger sequencing and bioinformatics workflows.
Variant Curation:
- Conduct detailed literature reviews for variant and gene classification.
- Maintain internal genetic variant databases and adhere to ACMG guidelines.
Diagnostics and Reporting:
- Draft diagnostic reports and support assay validations.
- Create technical documentation and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Research & Development:
- Engage in clinical research and assist with new assay validation.
- Contribute to professional practice development and support staff training.
Professional Development:
- Maintain technical expertise through self-learning and reflective practice.
- Act as a mentor for new staff and participate in quality initiatives.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure precise diagnostics and patient care.
- Foster teamwork, engage families in patient care decisions, and provide clear communication to support informed choices.
Safety and Compliance:
- Advocate for child safety, report risks, and uphold a culture of safety.
- Actively participate in safeguarding strategies and risk mitigation.
This role requires a strong technical background in genomic diagnostics, effective teamwork, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient-centered care in a pediatric setting.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- MS or PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, human genetics, or related scientific field
- In-depth understanding of the genetic basis of hereditary disorders
- Work experience with commonly used public genomics datasets (1000 genomes, ExAC, gnomAD, OMIM, ClinVar, PharmGKB, etc.)
- Knowledge of literature curation methodologies
- Preferred: Previous laboratory or research experience in a disease area, genetic pathway, or genomic testing technology
- Understanding of bioinformatics tools and workflows used to identify genomic variants from next-generation sequencing data
- Prior experience working in a clinical diagnostic environment is a plus
Certification and Licensure
- Ability to qualify for UAE allied healthcare personnel licensure requirements
- Life Support and Advanced Life Support Training
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) required OR Intermediate Life Support (ILS)
