Responsible for attending ambulatory and hospitalized patients in the age group from birth to the 12th birthday, including cases of all degrees of complexity, in accordance with the approved standards of medicine. Work is performed to meet established medical ethical and legal rules in the field of Paediatric and by observing practices and procedures as required by Medical Services. This embraces the medical standards required in such fields as neonatology, infectious diseases, cardiology, gastroenterology, central nervous system, hematology, endocrinology, and other fields of pediatrics. Supervision is minimal due to the nature of the work involved. The majority of professional problems encountered are solved with reference to the head of the department, who is informed of unusual problems or actions taken regarding unusual cases.
Responsibilities
Provide Neonatal and Paediatric services to patients at the Hospital, through current best evidence-based standards, using best judgment at all times, and in accordance with the Hospital medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations, and with instructions from the Specialist/Consultant.
Responsible for assessment and reassessment of patients.
Refers problematic and seriously ill patients to the Specialist and/or Consultant Neonatology/Paediatric for review and advice regarding management.
Assists other Neonatologists/Pediatricians in major procedures as and when required to do so.
Ensures optimal documentation and medical handover for patients seen through the department.
Assess risk, report incidents and participate in Risk Management processes.
Review with senior staff, adverse events, problem incidents and complaints and explore all opportunities to improve the quality of care and provide recommendations in regard to risk management.
Provide after hours, on call, emergency coverage for Neonatal and Paediatric emergencies and hospital services as per the roster if applicable.
Participates with other professional staff involved in the care of pediatric neonatal service in the hospital.
Fulfills professional requirements for continuing maintenance of competence in all aspects of pediatric neonatal medicine.
Carry out other assigned duties within the appropriate scope of knowledge, skills and abilities of pediatric neonatal of the position.
Administrative Activities:
Ensures proper record keeping. Attends committee meetings when so assigned by the Head of department. Monitors clinical and other established indicators to ensure ongoing quality assurance. Reviews journals, texts or periodicals in order to update latest techniques, procedures, drugs and therapy. Involved in development of International level guidelines to standardize and improve quality of service provided. Follows standard policies and procedures as required by DHA, JCI and other regulatory bodies. Participates in scheduled in-service training programs, CMEs, divisional teaching activities, the regular physicians’ conference or other committees as requested. Participate in improvement initiatives within the department. Handle complaints in an amicable manner when necessary. Foster interdepartmental liaison in order to ensure maintenance of established level of Service Agreements. Aware of hospital fire policy and emergency procedures. Participate in quality assurance program for the obstetrics and gynecology services and help develop and monitor indicators. Assist HOD in developing best practice guidelines protocols. Documents all care provided and education/information given to patients within their medical health record, as per professional and practice standards/protocols. Comply with reasonable policies and safe working procedures. Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems. Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures. Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone’s health and safety. Assist with the preparation of risk assessments. Report incidents, Near misses and issues as per protocol. Reduce, Reuse, Recycling of waste as much as possible. Attend all awareness programs and mock drills. Participates in audits, inspections and ensuring standards are maintained.
Miscellaneous activities Carries out other duties when requested by the Head of department.
Desired Candidate Profile
Qualifications
Graduate of approved Medical School with a valid license to practice medicine.
Preferable to have Certification of higher professional education in Paediatric or First part of recognized membership/fellowship/board or equivalent in Paediatric recognized by Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
Must have a thorough knowledge of medical ethics, with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his/her work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his/her patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
Current licensure in country of origin and with DHA license to practice in Dubai, U.A.E.
Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to satisfy client and organizational requirements.
Demonstrated commitment to quality outcomes and ability to consult with staff regarding continuous improvement.
Excellent command of oral and written English. Arabic language advantageous/desirable but not essential.
Ability to demonstrate highly developed communication and organizational skills at all levels.
Ability to provide compassionate care that is respectful to patients’ preferences.
Knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and in a team within a complex clinical setting.
