General Manager - Solar Energy Projects

With a healthy real estate portfolio currently under construction worth several billions of US dollars, we are now seeking a General Manager, based from our Dubai Head Office, to provide leadership and strategic direction in the setting up and day to day management of Solar Power Plants in Afghanistan, aligned with our corporate strategy of pursuing new energy ventures.

This position will be based at Azizi Developments’ head office in Dubai, with regular travel to Afghanistan to oversee the plant’s development and operations.

Responsibilities include

• Lead the analysis and evaluation of solar energy projects, identifying opportunities for investment, development, and partnerships with Afghanistan
• Provide strategic advice to the board and senior leadership team on the feasibility, viability, and potential returns of solar energy initiatives.
• Work with the Chief of Staff and the executive team to align solar energy ventures with Azizi Developments’ broader business strategy, particularly in expanding into the renewable energy sector.
• Advise on the potential for solar energy projects in emerging markets, including feasibility studies, legal/regulatory considerations, and project financing.
• Collaborate with technical experts, project managers, and engineers to ensure comprehensive evaluation and design of solar projects.

Here’s what you will need

• Bachelor’s degree in Renewable Energy, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field (Master’s degree or MBA preferred).
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in the renewable energy sector, with at least 5 years focused on solar energy project analysis, development, or management.
• Strong understanding of solar energy technologies, including photovoltaic (PV) systems, solar thermal energy, energy storage, and grid integration.
• Proven experience in conducting feasibility studies, financial modeling, and risk assessments for large-scale solar energy projects.
• In-depth knowledge of the regulatory landscape in renewable energy, including policies, incentives, and subsidies for solar projects.
• Ability to provide strategic, data-driven advice to senior leadership and the board of directors.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience in managing cross-functional teams and building successful partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and attend industry events, both locally and internationally.
