Roles and Responsibilities

You will be responsible for conducting gardening duties with care and concern for the environment of the property by using the tools provided by the hotel in a safe and professional manner. You will also maintain and look after the tools supplied by the hotel and correctly deposit them after finishing work. You must clean all work areas after finishing assigned tasks and report potential dangers as soon as possible.

Qualifications

• One-year operating experience in gardening.
• Basic knowledge in landscaping, gardening, and climates.
• Ensure the hotel/resort gardens are in health and safety standards with minimal supervision.
• 1. Knowledge of Plants and Gardening Techniques
  • In-depth understanding of various plant species, their growth cycles, and the care they require.
  • Familiarity with planting, pruning, weeding, fertilizing, and watering techniques tailored to different types of plants (e.g., flowers, shrubs, trees, vegetables).
  • Understanding of soil types and conditions, and how to improve or amend soil for optimal plant growth.
• 2. Attention to Detail
  • Observing the condition of plants and landscapes regularly to identify issues such as pests, diseases, or underperformance.
  • Ensuring that all tasks are completed accurately, from proper spacing of plants to the correct application of fertilizers and pesticides.
• 3. Physical Stamina and Dexterity
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting heavy bags of soil or mulch, bending, digging, and working outside for long periods.
  • Manual dexterity to handle gardening tools and equipment safely and effectively.
• 4. Organizational Skills
  • Ability to manage multiple gardening tasks efficiently, such as plant maintenance, landscaping projects, and garden design.
  • Keeping track of planting schedules, seasonal changes, and garden layouts.
• 5. Landscaping Skills
  • Understanding of landscape design principles to create visually pleasing and functional outdoor spaces.
  • Ability to work with different types of garden features such as pathways, ponds, fountains, and outdoor furniture.

  • Proficient in using various gardening tools and equipment, such as lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, pruning shears, and irrigation systems.
  • Regular maintenance of tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.

  • Knowledge of how to identify, manage, and prevent common garden pests, diseases, and weeds.
  • Experience in using eco-friendly or chemical pest control methods and understanding their impact on the environment.

  • Understanding of sustainable gardening practices, such as composting, water conservation, and eco-friendly pest control.
  • Awareness of the local climate and how to adjust gardening practices accordingly.

• 2. Lawn Care and Maintenance
  • Mowing lawns, aerating, fertilizing, and overseeding to ensure a healthy, lush lawn.
  • Removing weeds and ensuring that lawns are free from pests and diseases.
  • Repairing and maintaining garden pathways, fences, and other structures as needed.
• 3. Pest and Disease Management
  • Monitoring garden areas for signs of pests, diseases, or plant stress, and taking appropriate action to prevent or address issues.

  • Helping to design garden layouts, selecting appropriate plants and features that enhance the property's aesthetic appeal.
  • Installing and maintaining landscaping features such as flower beds, shrubs, and trees.
  • Creating and maintaining outdoor spaces that complement the overall design of the property.
• 5. Irrigation and Water Management
  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing irrigation systems to ensure that plants and lawns are adequately watered.
  • Ensuring efficient water usage, especially in areas where water conservation is important.
  • Adjusting watering schedules according to the weather and the specific needs of plants.
• 6. Composting and Soil Care
  • Creating and maintaining compost to recycle organic waste and improve soil quality.
  • Amending soil by adding fertilizers, compost, or mulch to improve plant growth and health.
  • Conducting soil tests and adjusting care practices based on soil conditions.
• 7. Seasonal Tasks
  • Preparing gardens for changing seasons, such as planting seasonal flowers or winterizing plants and equipment.
  • Managing garden transitions, such as preparing for spring planting or ensuring that plants are properly protected during the winter months.
• 8. Record Keeping
  • Maintaining records of planting schedules, garden maintenance, pest treatments, and any changes to the landscape design.
  • Tracking the health and growth progress of plants, noting any specific care requirements.
• 9. Waste Removal and Clean-up
  • Regularly removing garden waste such as leaves, dead plants, and grass clippings.
  • Ensuring that outdoor spaces are tidy and free from debris, maintaining a clean and organized environment.
