JOB PURPOSE
The College of Law at the University of Sharjah (UOS) in the United Arab Emirates is seeking candidates for full-time faculty positions (open rank), starting in the academic year 2025-2026. The College offers Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. programs in both Public and Private Law in Arabic, as well as a Master's in Air and Space Law in English. Starting in Fall 2023, the College began offering a Bachelor of Law program in English. Candidates will be expected to teach English programs only. The College of Law hosts the Center for Francophonie Law and actively participates in interdisciplinary programs with other colleges at UOS, as well as with local and international partners.
The United Arab Emirates is an international crossroads where law reflects civil, common, and Sharia legal systems. The College of Law prepares its graduates to work in a multidisciplinary environment, training them to understand the diverse legal systems that shape Emirati law and govern the complex events and transactions involving the UAE and its global partners.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Teach assigned classes and ensure the achievement of the learning outcomes specified by the program.
Develop new courses for the current offerings and potential new degree programs.
Actively participate in the intellectual life of a talented, vibrant, and unique legal community.
Publish in internationally peer-reviewed, Scopus-indexed journals.
Contribute to promoting research collaborations between UoS and international institutions.
Actively engage with the University and the wider Emirati community.
Supervise graduate students' theses and dissertations.
Advise undergraduate and graduate students on academic and career matters.
Provide academic and expert service to the department including but not limited to the preparation or completion of academic accreditation.
Deliver engaging learning experiences to students through lectures, seminars, and workshops in the subject area.
Complete all assigned tasks promptly and efficiently.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Candidates must hold a PhD or equivalent (e.g., S.J.D.) in Commercial Law from reputable universities in the USA, UK, Australia, or Canada.
Candidates applying for the rank of Assistant Professor must have published at least four papers in legal journals indexed in Scopus.
Candidates applying for the rank of Associate Professor must have published at least six papers in legal journals indexed in Scopus.
Candidates applying for the rank of Professor must have published at least eight papers in legal journals indexed in Scopus.
Candidates must have an outstanding academic record, with demonstrable evidence or strong potential for excellence and innovation in teaching, research, and service.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
Extensive experience in teaching graduate courses and supervising graduate theses/dissertations in the relevant discipline.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in using educational technology.
Candidate must be an English native speaker.
