Job description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Technical Analysis
  • Review project specifications, scope of work, single line diagrams, protection logic diagrams, and existing system data thoroughly.
  • Seek technical clarifications internally or externally with the customer as needed.
  • Customer Site Engagement
  • Conduct site visits to analyze retrofit design solutions.
  • Prepare site survey reports, method of statements, risk assessments, and SAT formats.
  • Base Design Preparation
  • Create base design documents in accordance with Siemens engineering standards, including AC/DC load checks, CT&VT adequacy checks, technical data sheets, and specification compliance.
  • Prepare Protection relay lists, SCMS, FMS, and RTU equipment lists.
  • Develop SCMS architecture, signal lists, FDS (Functional Design Specification), cable schedules, etc.
  • Address any clarifications/solution to customer under the guidance of the Engineering Manager/Application Manager.
  • Detailed Design Documentation
  • Guide assistants in preparing detailed design documents for Protection, FMS, RTU, and SCMS panels as per Siemens standards.
  • Design General Arrangements, scheme drawings, terminal plans, label lists, wiring tables, and ferrule lists using tools like A-CAD, ELCAD, EBASE, and MS Office.
  • Execute retrofit designs on PDF scheme pages based on customer requirements.
  • Prepare BOQs for ordering based on design approvals.
  • Update as-manufactured and as-built drawings.
  • RFQ/IFC Preparation & Review and Coordination
  • Prepare RFQ documents for factory submission and coordinate with the Project Manager.
  • Review and coordinate factory-issued construction documents.
  • Address any clarifications with the factory under the guidance of the Engineering Manager/Application Manager.
  • Process design change requests during project execution.
  • Meetings and Communication
  • Attend vendor meetings, customer meetings, and factory visits for design reviews, inspections, factory tests, and site-related engineering topics.
  • Maintain constant communication with the Engineering Manager/Application Manager regarding pending issues and project design status.
  • Schedule Control
  • Actively influence and control the forecasted engineering schedule to ensure timely design execution.
  • Project Management / Tendering Support
  • Develop project execution plans and cost estimates according to customer requirements under guidance with Customer Service managers/Application Managers.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and liabilities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams, support project turnover, assist in bid strategies, coordinate with vendors, conduct inspections, and drive process improvements throughout the project lifecycle.

Your success is grounded in

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a recognized university or technical institute.
  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience in Protection & Automation Designs.
  • Proficient in Siemens Siprotec-4, Siprotec-5, Reyrolle products, and RTU/SCMS/FMS components.
  • Proficient in Competitor Products (i.e. Hitachi, SEL, GE, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with design tools such as A-CAD, ELCAD, EBASE, and MS Visio.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, particularly in protection systems for power generation, transmission, and distribution.

  • Protection System Design: Proficiency in designing protective relay settings and schemes, including overcurrent, distance, and differential protection.

  • Standards Compliance: Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (e.g., IEEE, IEC) relevant to protection system design and implementation.

  • Software Proficiency: Experience with engineering software tools for simulation, modeling, and design (e.g., ETAP, PowerWorld, DIgSILENT).

  • Data Analysis: Ability to analyze system data to assess performance, identify issues, and optimize protection settings.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical abilities to diagnose protection-related issues and develop effective solutions.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and presenting technical information to stakeholders.

  • Project Management: Skills in managing design projects, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.

  • Field Experience: Familiarity with field testing and commissioning of protection systems, ensuring they function as intended.

  • Risk Assessment: Ability to conduct risk assessments related to protection systems to mitigate potential hazards.

  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying updated on the latest technologies, trends, and best practices in protection engineering.

  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy in design documentation, calculations, and specifications.
