Job description

Job Objective: Financial Controller acts as the key Finance Business Partner to the General Manager, driving financial governance in line with company standards. This role is responsible for supporting revenue-generating activities, optimizing costs, enhancing cash flow, and providing actionable financial insights to ensure strategic alignment and operational excellence. The role also plays a critical role in leveraging economies of scale between the Operating Units and group company to maximize efficiency.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Finance and Accounting Services: Coordinate with Finance Shared Services to ensure the delivery of appropriate accounting transaction services for the companies in accordance with the terms of the agreed Service Level Agreements.
  • Audited Financial Statement: Prepare the annual audited financial statements in co-ordination with the Group Accounting Manager, and with external auditors in accordance with the Group Accounting Standards and timetable.
  • Group Accounting and Treasury: Coordinate with Group Accounting and Group Treasury to ensure appropriate funding for making payment in compliance with Group policies.
  • Business and Financial Planning: Provide strategic, business and financial input into the periodic Business Plan and prepare the financial plans/budgets of the companies, reflecting the strategic and business objectives defined in the Business Plans.
  • Financial Forecasting: Prepare periodic and ad-hoc financial forecasts on the companies’ planned performance.
  • Performance Reporting: Review the standard periodic performance reports and prepare nonstandard periodic and ad-hoc management reports and presentations monitoring and interpreting the companies’ business performance, including insightful variance analysis and commentary.
  • Internal Controls: Implement appropriate internal controls and procedures to protect and preserve the company’s assets and ensure accurate accounting and reporting of the company’s business performance.
  • Corrective Action: Assist the companies’ management teams to identify and implement action required to correct adverse business and financial performance.
  • Investment Appraisal: Review all capital expenditure plans and proposals to ensure appropriate returns on investment.
  • Cost Management: Ensure that costs under different categories are managed within the budgets, analyze and identify non-productive costs to improve profitability.
  • Supply Chain Management: Advise management on inventory levels, review, and identification of non-moving and obsolete inventory items to minimize losses. Also, advise on disposal of such inventory.
  • Project Management: Involve and participate in the new projects undertaken by the entity in terms of budgeting, planning, and execution of the project. Financial due diligence on new business acquisition and pricing of such acquisition.
  • Financial Advice: Act as a trusted advisor to the General Manager, offering financial insights and recommendations to guide business decisions.

Business Improvement Advice:

  • Provide business consultancy advice and assistance to the companies’ senior management as required to achieve financial targets and improve business and financial performance, including product and service costing.
  • Maintain the quality, environmental and QH&S management system.
  • Communicate the importance of fulfilling customer, legal, and regulatory compliance requirements through periodic communication meetings as well as by conducting management reviews to ensure the availability of resources, that risk assessments are understood, and the integrated management system achieves its intended results.
  • Provide accountability and governance to all activities related to the lifecycle of our processes and products.
  • Ensure that corporate policies are understood, implemented, and maintained throughout at all levels.
  • Responsible for the quality of products and services since you control the resources, systems, and processes by which conforming work is accomplished.
  • Accept the legal and moral obligations to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, a safe and healthy working environment.

Ability & Skills:

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in finance roles, including 8 years post qualification, of which preferably a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Minimum 10 years in financial analysis experience in a multi-business environment or MNC environment.
  • Experience in the Oil and Gas/Energy industry, preferably from an engineering business related to upstream. Experience from industries such as petrochemicals/chemicals, manufacturing, industrial, construction, contracting will also be considered.

Academic Qualifications:

  • Western Education will be a distinct advantage.
  • Recognized professional accountancy qualification obtained by examination such as from a charter body, CPA, etc.
  • MBA is desirable.
  • Business or numerate degree is desirable.
