Roles and responsibilities

Job Description

How does your working day look like …

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage the hotel's accounts payable and receivable functions.
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial policies and regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor budgets and forecasts.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Perform financial analysis and reporting on operational performance.
  • Coordinate with department heads to ensure accurate financial reporting and budget adherence.
  • Manage payroll processing and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Reconcile bank statements and manage cash flow.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal financial regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation for external audits and liaise with external auditors.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management to support decision-making.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard the hotel's assets.
  • Monitor and analyze financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in strategic planning and provide financial input for business development initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

  • Financial Reporting

    • Preparation of Financial Statements: Preparing accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP).
    • Month-End and Year-End Close: Managing the month-end and year-end closing process, ensuring all financial transactions are properly recorded and reconciled.
    • Compliance: Ensuring all financial reporting complies with relevant accounting principles, tax laws, and regulatory requirements.
  • General Ledger Management

    • Recording Transactions: Maintaining and updating the general ledger, ensuring that all financial transactions are recorded accurately.
    • Account Reconciliation: Reconciling balance sheet accounts and resolving discrepancies between ledgers and financial records.
    • Journals and Adjustments: Making journal entries for accruals, prepayments, and adjustments to ensure the integrity of financial statements.
  • Tax Compliance and Reporting

    • Tax Filings: Preparing and submitting tax returns (e.g., VAT, corporate tax) and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws.
    • Tax Planning: Assisting in tax planning and advising on ways to minimize the organization’s tax liability through legal means.
  • Financial Analysis and Budgeting

    • Budget Preparation: Assisting in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, working closely with other departments to gather relevant data.
    • Variance Analysis: Analyzing actual financial results against budgets and forecasts, identifying any variances, and providing explanations to management.
    • Cost Control: Helping to monitor and control costs by analyzing financial data and recommending cost-saving initiatives.
  • Internal Controls and Auditing

    • Implementing Internal Controls: Ensuring that strong internal controls are in place to prevent errors, fraud, and financial misstatements.
    • Audit Preparation: Assisting with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations to auditors, and implementing any necessary improvements to processes based on audit findings.
  • Cash Flow Management

    • Cash Flow Monitoring: Managing cash flow by tracking and forecasting cash inflows and outflows to ensure the company has enough liquidity for operations.
    • Bank Reconciliation: Ensuring that bank accounts are reconciled and any discrepancies between the company’s records and bank statements are resolved.
  • Financial Advice and Reporting to Management

    • Advising Management: Providing insights and financial advice to management, helping them make informed decisions based on financial data.
    • Financial Forecasting: Assisting in long-term financial planning and forecasting to guide the company's growth and stability.
  • Fixed Assets Management

    • Tracking and Reporting: Maintaining records for fixed assets, ensuring they are accurately valued and depreciated according to accounting standards.
    • Asset Disposal: Managing the sale or disposal of fixed assets, ensuring any resulting financial impacts are recorded correctly.
