Job Title: Finance Manager
Reports to: Chairman
Job Purpose:
The Finance Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of the group of companies, with a focus on budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and strategic planning. This role involves working closely with the senior management team to ensure the financial health of the organization, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting business growth. The Finance Manager will also work closely with project managers and the project team to monitor project budgets and financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Planning and Analysis: Lead the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals and objectives. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial forecasts, providing insights into potential financial risks and opportunities. Conduct variance analysis and provide actionable recommendations to senior management for improving financial performance. Analyze financial data and trends to support decision-making processes.
- Project Financial Management: Work closely with project managers and teams to track project costs, timelines, and profitability. Ensure project budgets are adhered to and monitor project cash flows to identify potential financial issues. Provide financial oversight for projects, ensuring accurate cost estimation, financial modeling, and risk assessment. Review project financial reports and advise stakeholders on cost-saving strategies.
- Project Estimation and Cost Planning: Lead the financial estimation and costing for new projects, ensuring accurate and comprehensive cost breakdowns based on scope and historical project data. Collaborate with the project team to assess and provide detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and other resources. Ensure that project estimations align with the company’s pricing models and cost control frameworks. Work with the project team to update project budgets based on changes in scope, design, or materials throughout the project lifecycle. Assess project risks and their potential financial impact, adjusting estimates and financial plans as necessary to mitigate risk.
- Financial Reporting and Compliance: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements, in accordance with accounting standards. Oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Coordinate with external auditors to ensure smooth and successful audits. Ensure the company’s financial practices and policies are in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Cash Flow and Risk Management: Monitor and manage company cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity to meet operational and project needs. Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies. Assist in negotiating contracts with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to optimize financial outcomes. Develop and implement strategies for debt management and capital structure optimization.
- Team Leadership and Development: Manage and mentor the finance team, providing guidance on accounting principles, financial processes, and best practices. Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment, ensuring high levels of performance and accountability. Support the professional development of the finance team through training, feedback, and career growth opportunities.
- Technology and Systems Integration: Work with IT teams to integrate financial tracking and reporting systems, ensuring smooth financial data flow across departments. Leverage financial management tools to improve the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting, forecasting, and cost estimation. Stay up to date with advancements in financial management tools and industry trends to ensure the company’s systems remain effective and efficient.
Other Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain reports related to income, expenditure, and budget variance analysis for Chairman review.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements, projections, and forecasts for vetting by the Chairman.
- Maintain and analyze business valuations using various models such as DCF and EBITDA.
- Advise on investment activities and provide strategies that the company should take.
- Assist the Chairman with any suggestions/contributions that may help in the betterment of the company.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the Management Team.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CFA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in finance management, ideally within the engineering or construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of financial principles, accounting practices, and financial modeling.
- Experience with project-based accounting, including cost management and budget forecasting in an engineering or construction environment.
- Expertise in financial reporting and analysis, with proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
- Ability to interpret and apply financial data in a strategic manner to support company growth and profitability.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Leadership and team management experience, with the ability to inspire and drive performance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
- Proficiency in Google Suite is an asset.
