Job description
  • Advise local teams of the Careem Rides business in the MEA region on Employment Legal issues.
  • Be part of the broader Careem Rides and Uber Employment Legal Team to help optimize the synergies for the business.
  • Advise on employment legal aspects of contracts, business development agreements, and acquisitions.
  • Advise on employment legal issues during the development of new products and initiatives.
  • Do research on new legislation, advise on impact for the business, and work with policy teams to minimize impact and identify opportunities to improve the quality of independent flexible work in the region.
  • Handle and advise on litigation disputes and employment litigation.
  • Advise our HR team on the full range of employment matters relating to recruiting, hiring, training, performance management, compensation, benefits, and terminations in MENAP. Prepare and conduct training for HR and the business on various employment-related topics such as conducting investigations, performance management, and award-related matters.
  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of employment documents, including employment contracts, restrictive covenant agreements, assignment letters, separation agreements, and policies and handbooks.
  • Partner closely with HR and internal audit on a variety of projects, initiatives, investigations, and risk management.

What you'll need

  • 3 - 6 years of employment law experience at a top-tier mid to large size law firm and/or in-house with a focus on employment law.
  • Knowledge and experience in employment law in at least two or more of the following jurisdictions: Morocco, Pakistan, UAE, Kuwait, Iraq, KSA, Bahrain, Jordan, and Egypt.
  • Strong business judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Inquisitiveness, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of the matter, and articulate plans to address them.
  • History of driving efficient and strategic use of resources, including other support functions, in-house counsel, vendors, and external counsel.
  • Collaborative approach with both business and legal groups, with a strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility, and partner with others.
  • Able to work in an extremely fast-paced environment under the direction of the manager, collaboratively, and autonomously.
  • Enthusiasm for taking on new responsibilities, even if outside areas of expertise.
  • Written and spoken fluency in English required; spoken fluency or basic knowledge of Arabic is highly preferred.
