Job description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Checks anesthesia machine every morning prior to surgery to ensure that the gas scavenging system is attached and the suction apparatus is attached and functioning.
  • Assists during induction, maintenance, and recovery from anesthesia.
  • Provides assistance to anesthesia personnel in assembling equipment and supplies for the administration of anesthesia.
  • Performs cleaning of equipment, storing of supplies, and cleans anesthesia workspaces and storage areas.
  • Works with a wide variety of equipment peculiar to the administration of anesthesia, patient monitoring, and related life support systems; must be familiar with intravenous fluids and blood administration systems.
  • Understands the sequence of procedures required for rapid induction and intubation used in emergency cases to prevent vomiting and aspiration; performs Sellick’s Maneuver (Cricoid pressure) as required.
  • Positions patients for surgery and those requiring spinal or epidural anesthesia with awareness of the requirements of a sterile technique for the procedure.
  • Learns and keeps current with the names of equipment, supplies, and pharmacological agents; familiar with their locations.
  • Assists anesthetists with starting I.V. infusions.
  • Shares “on call” rotation to provide assistance for emergency surgeries during other than normal hours, i.e., nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Maintains awareness of safety hazards and takes necessary action to prevent accidents.
  • Attends staff meetings as required on a regular basis.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient records and activities in the OR.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by Unit Supervisor/Charge Nurse or other Anesthetist.
  • Participates in any PI activities and scheduled continuing nursing education and updating.
  • Participates in conferences or training to update or share knowledge of new techniques in Anesthesia.
  • Maintains current knowledge of operation procedures and maintenance of new equipment.

OSH ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

General:

  • Responsible to familiarize, comply, and implement the OSHAD-SF & NMCSH Al Ain Internal OSHMS policies and procedures/SOPs relevant to their department.
  • Notify/report all OSHMS hazards, incidents, accidents, and near misses within the premises of NMCSH Al Ain to their supervisor or department OSH Facilitator as per the incident reporting protocol of NMCSH Al Ain.
  • Assist with the preparation of departmental risk assessment activities and implement control measures within the timeframe.
  • Attend applicable department OSHMS training.
  • Do not tamper or misuse any NMCSH Al Ain equipment and its property.
  • Comply with all OSH instructions, safe working procedures, and signages within the premises of NMCSH-Al Ain.
  • Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Do not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone's health and safety.
  • Make proper use of all machinery, tools, substances, etc., safety systems, and all Personal Protective Equipment provided for use at work.
  • Participate in required OSH inspections, audits, and OSH monitoring programs.

Specific:

  • Comply with OSHAD, DOH, FNAR, and NMCSH policy/procedures related to Radiation/Laser Safety.
  • Display commitment to limiting radiation exposure by wearing appropriate PPE (E.g., Lead Apron) during radiation/laser procedures.
  • Wear and maintain dosimeters during all radiation procedures.
  • Assist doctors in operating laser/radiation systems during procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly treatment room.

BCP ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate actively in the business continuity program when required.
  • Achieve an adequate level of general awareness regarding business continuity; be aware of the contents of their service area's disaster recovery plan and any specific role or responsibilities allocated.
  • Ensure information governance standards continue to be applied to data and information during an incident.

  • Apply departmental and organizational data and information system security policies.

Basic Computer Literacy Skills:

  • Use basic word processing, spreadsheet, and desktop presentation applications as applicable to your work.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the Windows operating environment.
  • Demonstrate use of email, addressing, forwarding, attachments, and netiquette.

QUALIFICATION, LICENSURE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL SKILLS

  • Diploma / College Degree in Anesthetic Techniques.
  • Minimum 2 years experience after qualification and registration/license to practice.
  • Currently licensed in country of origin and with DOH license to practice in Al Ain, UAE.
  • Fluent in spoken & written English; Arabic language is desirable, but not essential.
