Job description

Educating and assisting the public with all animal related information including show presentation, school orientations, face to face discussion, and organizing of events.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Zoo educators are responsible for teaching visitors about the animals kept at the zoo and promoting conservation efforts.

Duties

  1. Public Awareness about conservation, ecosystems, and animal welfare to promote conservation efforts and enhance flora and fauna protection. This exchange of information can be conducted formally (in lectures and guided tours) or informally (answering questions).
  2. Engage with schools and visitors by providing information about Emirates Park Zoo and its collection of animals.
  3. Present live animal shows and educational demonstrations (insitu programs) for schools and visitors.
  4. Interact with veterinarians, nutritionists, trainers, zookeepers, and other zoo staff to keep up to date with the latest happenings at the zoo and its animals.
  5. Contribute to and conduct exsitu educational presentations and exhibitions to increase public awareness and knowledge about flora and fauna.
  6. Prepare educational materials for presentations, including posters, brochures, banners, workbooks, and other handouts.
  7. Handle guest concerns and resolve problems in a polite, helpful, and accurate manner.
  8. Answer questions and provide accurate information while interacting with visitors in a welcoming manner to encourage repeat visits.
  9. Engage with volunteers and interns of EPZ to achieve zoo goals.
  10. If needed, assist in producing videos, taking photos, and creating multimedia presentations used to promote the zoo and its programs.
  11. Educate visitors on proper animal care and conduct educational talks about animals and conservation.
  12. Provide experiences for visitors to enable them to make choices about their impact on the environment (both positive and negative).
  13. If needed, assist with any emergency incidents relevant to animals and people.
  14. If needed, help with animal observations to ensure animal health.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences, Education, Communications, Zoology, Biology, Animal Science, or a related field.
  2. Excellent presentation skills with the ability to adapt to audiences of different ages and learning abilities.
  3. Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and to stand and maintain alertness for long periods of time.
  4. Self-confidence.
  5. Excellent customer service skills and teamwork.
  6. Punctuality, professional appearance, and manner at all times.
  7. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  8. Able to work a flexible/changing schedule; some evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
  9. No allergic conditions to animals.
