Education & Conservation Team Leader

Job Description

The Education and Conservation Team Leader at World Butterfly Park will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of educational programs and conservation initiatives. This role requires a passion for environmental education, conservation, and a deep understanding of butterfly and plant ecology. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic leader capable of inspiring and managing a team of educators and conservationists while fostering partnerships with local schools, organizations, and the community.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Program Development and Management :
   1. Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for diverse audiences, including school groups, families, and adults.
   2. Create engaging educational materials and resources related to butterfly biology, ecology, and conservation.
   3. Coordinate and lead workshops, tours, and presentations both on-site and off-site.
2. Conservation Initiatives :
   1. Develop and oversee conservation projects focused on butterfly habitat preservation, restoration, and research.
   2. Monitor and report on the health and status of butterfly populations within the garden.
   3. Collaborate with local, regional, and national conservation organizations to support broader conservation goals.
3. Team Leadership :
   1. Recruit, train, and supervise a team of education and conservation staff and volunteers.
   2. Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.
   3. Conduct regular team meetings and provide ongoing professional development opportunities.
4. Community Engagement and Partnerships :
   1. Build and maintain relationships with local schools, community groups, and environmental organizations.
   2. Represent the Butterfly Garden at community events, meetings, and conferences.
   3. Develop and implement outreach strategies to increase community involvement and support for the garden’s programs.
5. Administrative Duties :
   1. Prepare and manage budgets for educational and conservation programs.
   2. Maintain records and prepare reports on program activities, attendance, and outcomes.
   3. Assist with grant writing and fundraising efforts to support educational and conservation initiatives.

Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree in environmental education, Conservation Biology, Ecology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
2. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in environmental education and/or conservation.
3. Strong knowledge of butterfly and plant ecology.
4. Proven experience in program development and team leadership.
5. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
6. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
8. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements :

1. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
2. Ability to stand, walk, and lead tours for extended periods.
3. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
