Roles and Responsibilities

We are currently looking for dynamic and self-motivated Recreation professionals who want to move their careers forward.
As a Lifeguard, you are responsible for monitoring activities in the swimming area to prevent accidents and provide assistance to swimmers. Your role will include key responsibilities as follows:

  • Caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and administer first aid
  • Maintain order in swimming areas
  • Determine the chlorine content and pH value of water using a water testing kit
  • Conduct or officiate swimming meets and give swimming instructions
  • Ensure the swimming pool is clean
  • Ensure the sun loungers are clean, in the correct position, and in working order
  • Regularly check the temperature of the pool to ensure it is at the set standard
  • Ensure the pool deck is clean and free of any debris during operation
  • Ensure that the umbrellas are fixed properly to their units
  • Ensure that when the umbrellas are not in use, they are tied down for safety precautions
  • Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
  • Have full knowledge of the club’s facilities, timings, promotions, and prices

Skills
Education, Qualifications & Experiences
You should ideally be a professional swimmer and a trained and qualified lifeguard with a diploma or university degree and some previous work experience, preferably within the hotel industry. Being physically fit and able to work long hours in an outdoor environment are essential. A good command of English and strong interpersonal abilities are advantageous.
Knowledge & Competencies
The ideal candidate will be customer-driven with good guest service skills and the ability to handle complaints. You are a positive, smiley individual with a sportive, outgoing, and approachable character. You will work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment and be a great team player, thriving in working with a multi-cultural team and guests alike, while possessing the following additional competencies:

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitoring Swimmers and Water Activities:

    • Constantly observing swimmers and participants to ensure they are following safety rules and swimming safely.
    • Identifying individuals at risk, such as those swimming in dangerous areas, too far from shore, or engaging in risky behavior.
    • Using lifeguard equipment such as whistles, flotation devices, and rescue tubes to attract attention or provide help if necessary.
  • Rescue Operations:

    • Responding to emergencies promptly by performing rescues if a swimmer is in distress or in danger.
    • Using rescue techniques to bring individuals to safety and providing assistance to those who are injured, exhausted, or in need of help.
    • Administering first aid, CPR, or using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) when required.
  • Safety Enforcement:

    • Enforcing pool or beach rules and regulations, such as no diving in shallow areas, no running around the pool, or keeping certain areas clear of swimmers.
    • Educating swimmers about water safety, rules, and behaviors to minimize accidents and promote a safe environment.
  • Emergency Response:

    • Being prepared to act quickly in the event of an emergency, such as a medical issue, drowning, or natural disaster.
    • Coordinating with other lifeguards or emergency personnel to manage and resolve emergencies effectively.
    • Keeping a calm demeanor in stressful situations, providing reassurance to swimmers and other people present.
  • Preventative Measures:

    • Identifying hazards or unsafe conditions, such as sharp objects, broken equipment, or dangerous weather conditions.
    • Maintaining cleanliness in aquatic areas to prevent accidents and injuries, including checking the condition of the pool, water quality, and equipment.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting:

    • Maintaining accurate records of incidents, rescues, and first aid interventions.
    • Reporting any issues with the water environment, equipment, or swimmer safety to management.
    • Documenting emergency responses and reporting on any injuries or accidents that occur.
  • Teamwork:

    • Working closely with other lifeguards to ensure smooth operations, especially in larger pools or beaches with multiple lifeguards on duty.
    • Communicating effectively with fellow lifeguards and staff to ensure proper coverage, safety, and emergency preparedness.
  • Physical Fitness:

    • Regularly maintaining personal physical fitness to ensure the ability to perform rescues and handle emergencies effectively.
    • Performing drills and training exercises to stay sharp and prepared for rescue situations.
