About the job

The Facilities Management (FM) Director – Healthcare is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and management of all facilities operations within a healthcare environment. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, safe, and compliant facilities management services, including maintenance, engineering, soft services, and regulatory compliance, to support patient care and operational efficiency.

The FM Director will oversee asset management, sustainability initiatives, vendor contracts, and budget control, ensuring alignment with healthcare regulations, infection control standards, and patient safety requirements. The role also involves leading teams, driving continuous improvement, and implementing best practices in facility management to optimize performance, minimize risks, and enhance the overall healthcare environment.

Roles, Responsibilities, Duties

Strategic Leadership & Planning:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive facilities management strategy aligned with healthcare regulations and best practices.
  • Ensure facilities management services support the organization’s mission of delivering high-quality patient care.
  • Lead sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives within the healthcare facility.

Facility Operations & Maintenance:

  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of hospital infrastructure, medical facilities, and critical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare standards for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and emergency power supply.
  • Implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs to minimize downtime and disruptions.

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure adherence to healthcare facility regulations, including infection control, fire safety, and environmental health standards.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to meet regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., JCI, MOH, DHA, DOH).
  • Develop and enforce policies related to health, safety, and risk management in facility operations.

Soft Services Management:

  • Oversee housekeeping, waste management, security, and catering services to maintain a safe and hygienic healthcare environment.
  • Implement infection control measures in collaboration with clinical teams.
  • Ensure efficient management of laundry and sanitation services to support hospital hygiene protocols.

Budgeting & Cost Control:

  • Develop and manage the FM department’s budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness while maintaining service quality.
  • Optimize resource allocation and negotiate contracts with vendors and service providers.
  • Monitor operational expenses and implement cost-saving initiatives.

Vendor & Contract Management:

  • Manage contracts for outsourced services, ensuring high standards of service delivery.
  • Oversee procurement processes for facility-related equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure vendors comply with healthcare facility standards and SLAs (Service Level Agreements).

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead and mentor a team of FM professionals, including engineers, technicians, and service staff.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, training, and professional development.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and succession planning for critical FM roles.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities Management, Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Biomedical), Healthcare Management, or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree in Facilities Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration (MBA), or a related field is highly desirable.

Experience:

10+ years of experience in Facilities Management (FM), with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within a healthcare or hospital environment.
