The position provides technical expertise as well as administering the underwriting function. Within authority limitations, has the final determination on the acceptance or rejection of the risk.
Job Requirements:
Support Sr. Marine underwriters in day to day operations of Syndicate Marine Team.
Maintain relationships with International Marine Brokers to ensure a constant flow of submissions.
Improve overall portfolio persistency to relieve new business production.
Retain existing Marine portfolio.
Evaluate more complex risks or amounts in excess of field approval limits.
Follow underwriting protocols, guidelines, and pricing policies.
Monitor trends and identify the need for new or revised underwriting policies, procedures, and practices. Recommend changes to underwriting leadership.
Proactively identify and pursue up-selling (add-ons) and cross-selling opportunities to maximize profitable revenue potential from new and renewal business and achieve agreed business targets.
Consult on international and local market intelligence to enable profitable business writing.
Ensure profitable growth of Marine portfolio.
Assist the Head of Department in the development and implementation of the company’s strategic business plan and budget in line with distribution.
Provide accurate, high quality, and speedy underwriting service for the assigned limits that builds customer relations and credibility.
Assist the Manager in underwriting decisions after analyzing and pricing the risk based on information provided in the proposal form/survey report.
Drive accurate, high quality, and speedy underwriting service that builds customer relations and credibility.
May liaise with Third Party Administrators, reinsurance, and claims for service delivery issues.
Generate and monitor monthly production reports/claims analysis.
Provide counsel, coaching, and guidance to underwriters that may not report to them.
Keep documentation and systems up to date.
Respond to queries raised by the Managing Agent, Lloyds of London, or Syndicate Manager.

Qualifications:
Graduate degree preferably in Science, Insurance, Risk Management, Accountancy, or Law.
Insurance certification from any accredited institute preferred.
5 years of underwriting experience in Marine Cargo Business and experience in writing inward reinsurance business.
Proven ability in underwriting, organizing workload under pressure, and leading medium or small teams.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of the Marine Cargo insurance market and regulatory environment; Knowledge of Marine Hull will be a plus.
