JOB DESCRIPTION: Classroom Teacher

Job Title: Classroom Teacher

Department: Primary

Reports to: Key stage Leader

Direct Reports: Head of Primary

Job Scope

  1. To ensure the vision for the school is clearly articulated, shared, understood and acted upon effectively by all.
  2. To have a ‘can do’ attitude that brings energy and enthusiasm to the post and is a positive role model for other staff in school.
  3. To contribute to a positive, supportive and challenging partnership that enhances the strategic development of the school.
  4. To work within the school and community to translate the vision into agreed objectives and operational plans which will promote and sustain school improvement.
  5. To demonstrate the vision and values in everyday work and practice.
  6. To motivate and work with others to create a shared, forward-looking culture and positive climate.
  7. To ensure creativity, innovation and the use of appropriate new technologies to achieve excellence.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

This is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities.

  1. Delivering lessons for the given subject(s) with excellent knowledge and understanding of the subject/year group.
  2. Outstanding knowledge of how to equip students with the skills to achieve their potential.
  3. Creating and nurturing a warm, caring, but academically driven classroom environment.
  4. Being a class teacher to a given class, knowing and caring for the wellbeing, academic and extracurricular success of each student.
  5. Offering impeccable safeguarding and child protection to every student.
  6. Creating and adding to the team's lesson resources, ensuring they are tailored to the classes taught.
  7. Tracking students' progress and applying internal and external data to lesson planning.
  8. Reporting on student progress throughout the year via physical reports and parents' evenings.
  9. Offering personalized challenges and tailoring planning to meet the needs of the class.
  10. Taking responsibility for one’s own professional development journey and engaging in the school-wide professional development programme.
  11. Sharing in the pastoral responsibility for all pupils, especially those in the teacher’s tutor group.
  12. Conducting break time/lunch time duties and covering for absent colleagues.
  13. Maintaining a positive physical learning environment, including classroom displays.
  14. Attending school events and participating in the wider school life.
  15. Offering an extracurricular club for at least two school terms of high quality.
  16. Contributing to the school improvement plan.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people you are responsible for or come into contact with.
  2. Any other duties as assigned by the Principal/Senior leaders/Line managers.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Related Experience

  1. Have a good honours degree.
  2. Hold a QTS or PGCE teaching qualification, preferably from the UK.
  3. Have a minimum of two years’ experience of teaching.
  4. Be talented and highly motivated.
  5. Have experience teaching relevant UK curriculums.
  6. Be willing to contribute to the development of departmental resources.
  7. Contribute to whole school enrichment activities before or after school.
  8. Provide an ICPC and a UK enhanced DBS or equivalent police check.
  9. Be professional in appearance and conduct.
  10. Be willing to support the vision of the school.
