The electrician will install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures in buildings and ensure that electrical work meets required safety standards. The role involves reading and interpreting blueprints, troubleshooting electrical issues, and working with various tools and equipment. Electricians must ensure compliance with national and local electrical codes and ensure the safety and functionality of electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Installation: Install electrical wiring, fixtures, and control systems in new and existing buildings according to blueprints and technical diagrams.
Maintenance and Repairs: Perform maintenance and repair on electrical systems, including diagnosing problems, replacing faulty wiring, and ensuring the safe operation of electrical components.
Troubleshooting: Identify and fix electrical malfunctions by using testing devices such as voltmeters, circuit testers, and ohmmeters.
Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all electrical systems meet safety standards and comply with national and local electrical codes (e.g., NEC), including grounding and bonding of systems.
Circuit Testing: Test electrical systems to ensure proper connection and function, as well as the identification of any potential hazards.
Electrical Upgrades: Install new electrical systems or upgrade existing wiring to meet modern energy efficiency standards and safety requirements.
Work Coordination: Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and other construction professionals to plan electrical installations and integrate systems during building projects.
Documentation: Keep accurate records of electrical repairs, installations, and inspections for compliance purposes and future maintenance needs.
Tool and Equipment Use: Operate hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment (e.g., conduit benders, wire strippers, circuit testers) effectively and safely.
Emergency Response: Respond to electrical emergencies and perform repairs as needed to minimize downtime for critical systems.
Required Skills:
Proficiency in installing and maintaining electrical systems (wiring, lighting, circuit boards, etc.)
Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local codes
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and plans
Experience with electrical testing equipment, such as multimeters, ammeters, and voltmeters
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Good communication skills to coordinate with team members and clients
Attention to detail and commitment to safety procedures
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Completion of an electrician apprenticeship program or trade school (required)
Journeyman or Master Electrician license (depending on state or local regulations)
2-5 years of experience in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and guidelines
