Job description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Lead the I&C engineering design and implementation through various phases of the ROO EPCm project, ensuring compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain I&C engineering documents such as instrument datasheets, index, IO schedule, Control narrative, Safety requirement specification, RFQ, TBE, Site survey SOW, Control system modification SOW and drawings, such as wiring diagrams, loop diagram, installation details, Location layout drawings, Instrument hook up, Control room layout drawing, level sketch diagram.
  • Perform and review calculations for system sizing and design, including control valve sizing, flow element sizing, and relief valve sizing.
  • Specify and procure instrumentation, control systems, and related equipment and liaise with Vendors post award to ensure successful supply of Vendor design documentation and equipment according to contractual requirements including technical review of Vendor engineering and design deliverables.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines such as process, mechanical, piping, and electrical to ensure an integrated design approach and advocate for an integrated team approach to projects.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZID, HAZOP studies, and SIL assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks, plot plan review, Constructability review and 3D model review meeting.
  • Liaise with clients, vendors, and contractors to ensure design specifications are met and to resolve any technical issues that may arise.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior I&C engineers and designers on the team.
  • Prepare and manage the I&C engineering budget and schedule, ensuring that project milestones are met.
  • Stay updated with the latest technological advancements and regulatory changes in the field of I&C engineering.
  • Responsible for attending weekly progress meetings, client meetings, input to project teams as and when required, preparing EQY, TQY and responses to SQYs etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering.
  • A minimum of 18 years of I&C engineering experience, preferably within the oil and gas industry.
  • Proven experience in FEED projects, with a solid understanding of EPCM contracts.
  • Familiarity with international codes and standards related to I&C engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of DCS, SIS, PLC, SCADA, and field instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in I&C software tools and applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership abilities.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent is an advantage.

Desired candidate profile

  1. Instrumentation Design and Specification:

    • Designing and specifying instrumentation systems, including sensors, transmitters, and control devices.
    • Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ISA, IEC) for selecting and designing instrumentation.
    • Experience with instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and electrical schematics.
  2. Control Systems Engineering:

    • Designing and implementing control systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA) to regulate industrial processes.
    • Proficiency in PID control loops, automation, and real-time control systems.
    • Experience with integrating instrumentation into control systems.
  3. Calibration and Maintenance:

    • Overseeing the calibration and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems to ensure accuracy and reliability.
    • Conducting preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of malfunctioning equipment.
    • Ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational efficiency.
  4. Measurement Techniques:

    • Expertise in process measurement technologies (e.g., pressure, temperature, flow, level).
    • Experience with signal conditioning, data acquisition, and control loops.
    • Proficiency in using calibration equipment like multimeters, oscilloscopes, and pressure calibrators.
  5. Data Acquisition and Analysis:

    • Implementing data acquisition systems to monitor and record instrumentation readings.
    • Analyzing process data to identify trends and optimize performance.
  6. Project Management:

    • Leading instrumentation projects, from planning through commissioning and final handover.
    • Managing project timelines, budgets, resources, and risks.
    • Collaborating with other engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, civil) for project success.

Leadership and Soft Skills:

  1. Team Leadership and Management:

    • Leading a team of instrumentation engineers, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
    • Coordinating the activities of the engineering team to ensure timely completion of tasks.
    • Managing personnel, setting performance objectives, and conducting performance reviews.
  2. Communication:

    • Effectively communicating with cross-functional teams, contractors, and clients to ensure project goals are understood and met.
    • Preparing and delivering technical reports, presentations, and training materials.
