Perform Water Rescues: Perform water rescues using appropriate techniques and equipment. Safely remove individuals from the water in distress and provide assistance until medical help arrives, if needed.
Administer First Aid: Provide first aid treatment for minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes, or sprains. Ensure that injured swimmers receive the necessary care and monitor for signs of serious injury.
Maintain Equipment: Check and maintain lifeguard equipment such as rescue tubes, flotation devices, and first aid kits to ensure they are in working order.
Conduct Safety Drills: Participate in regular emergency drills, practice rescue techniques, and review safety procedures to stay prepared for any situation.
Assist with Pool or Beach Management: Help in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the swimming area by reporting hazards (e.g., broken equipment, slippery surfaces) and assisting with crowd control during peak hours.
Report Incidents: Write reports on accidents, rescues, injuries, and other incidents that occur in the swimming area, and report them to supervisors or relevant authorities.
Provide Customer Service: Greet swimmers, provide them with information on safety guidelines, and answer any questions regarding the swimming area or activities.
Monitor Environmental Conditions: Keep an eye on the weather, water conditions, and any potential hazards such as rough waves or strong currents to ensure swimmer safety.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Certifications:
Lifeguard certification (e.g., American Red Cross Lifeguard Training).
Experience: Prior experience as a lifeguard or in a related role is advantageous.
Skills:
Strong swimming skills and physical fitness.
Ability to remain calm and focused in emergencies.
Good communication and customer service skills.
Ability to perform rescues and administer first aid effectively.
Physical Requirements:
Must be in good physical condition with the ability to swim long distances, tread water, and perform physical rescues.
Ability to lift and carry injured individuals or assist them out of the water.
Ability to work outdoors and in various weather conditions.
Work Environment:
Work in or around pools, lakes, beaches, or waterparks, with a focus on areas that are open to the public.
May work in both indoor and outdoor environments, in both warm and cold temperatures, depending on the location.
Shifts may include weekends, holidays, and varying hours, particularly during peak swim seasons.
