The Principal Civil/Structural Designer directly impacts the effectiveness of their team and related teams. They exchange ideas and information relating to Civil/Structural Design effectively. They may work autonomously within established Civil/Structural Design procedures and practices. They act as a lead coordinating the work of others. The Principal Civil/Structural Designer proposes improvements to processes and methods within the Civil/Structural Design discipline.
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum 15 years of experience in offshore/other steel structure drafting and 3D modeling
Expertise in E3D S3D software
Managed a team of designers as a Lead
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Prepare and develop arrangement and detail conceptual FEED studies and detail design drawings of high technical quality and professional consistent presentation ensuring clarity and ease of construction
Develop 3D models and ensure clash-free coordination with all other disciplines
Ensure design deliverables are completed and issued per project specifications, MDR and project Level 2 & 3 procedures, and within agreed schedules and budgets
Set priorities, organize own work and time to meet objectives, and (as Lead Designer) forecast and plan resource requirements
Act as a coordinator and technical expert within the process of development and/or modification of 3D Macros applied at E3D/S3D
When acting as Lead Designer, additionally:
Direct and coordinate medium or large Design team as Lead Designer
Lead projects as Lead Designer engaging the participation of other disciplines
Coordinate all activities within own discipline and discipline interfaces with other disciplines
Lead the design team of the assigned work area and complete within the planned schedule and budget in accordance with standards, MDR, and project-specific procedures
Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of Discipline execution on the assigned project including scope, deliverables, schedule, and all Discipline workforce resources
Ensure interfaces and deliverables are clearly identified
Maintain responsibility for progress and productivity, identifying any required corrective action
Act as project-based Discipline point of contact in communications and meetings with the Project Team, Customer, vendor/supplier, and/or subcontractor counterparts and relevant agencies
Become fully familiar with Project Scope of Work, specifications, schedule, and interdisciplinary requirements
Prepare Civil and Structural layouts from data generated by others in close liaison with Civil and Structural Engineers and counterparts from other disciplines
Assist Lead Engineer/Designer in raising technical queries, preparing estimates, and job scope changes
Attend (As Lead Designer) project Kickoff and Review meetings, Vendor meetings
Monitor and coordinate the design team remotely if required and Lead a project in a Multi Office Project Execution Environment (MOPEX)
Ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with McDermott requirements, Client, and Statutory Design Codes, Standards or Procedures with a particular focus on Health and Safety Policies
Develop 3D Models and ensure clash-free models in coordination with all other disciplines' requirements
Organize design work including setting up 3D and 2D systems
Supervise Designers and Associate Designers
Execute relevant administration and filing
Check designs with particular emphasis on interfaces with other disciplines
Check designs for operational requirements, constructability, maintainability, and HSE aspects
Provide drafting support as required
Review other discipline drawings
Review supplier drawings
Be able to perform the engineering of Miscellaneous steel
Participate in proposals as an expert for CSA design work
Essential Qualifications and Education:
High School graduate with a diploma in Civil or Structural disciplines or equivalent experience
10 years minimum with a major contractor or consultant, of which 5 years of experience in oil and gas
Detailed knowledge of associated industry detailing standards & codes
Detailed knowledge of 3D and 2D drafting and material control systems (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation)
Minimum 2 projects working and/or Review experience in E3D and/or S3D
Capable of Leading projects
Be able to perform the engineering of Miscellaneous steel
To participate in proposals as an expert for CSA design work
