Job description

A Water Quality Scientist in the Energy & Utilities industry is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and ensuring the quality and safety of water resources. They conduct laboratory tests, research, and analysis to assess water quality parameters and develop strategies for water treatment and conservation.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Water Quality Analysis: Conduct laboratory tests and field measurements to assess the physical, chemical, and biological properties of water samples. Analyze data and interpret results to evaluate water quality parameters, such as pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, and contaminants.
  2. Monitoring and Sampling: Collect water samples from various sources, including rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and treatment plants. Follow standard protocols and guidelines for sampling to ensure representative and accurate data collection.
  3. Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze water quality data using statistical tools and software. Prepare reports summarizing findings and recommendations for water quality improvement and compliance with regulatory standards.
  4. Water Treatment Strategies: Collaborate with water engineers and treatment plant operators to develop effective water treatment strategies. Provide input on the selection and implementation of treatment processes, such as filtration, disinfection, and chemical dosing.
  5. Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated with local and international water quality regulations, standards, and guidelines. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to drinking water, wastewater discharge, and environmental protection.
  6. Research and Development: Stay informed about emerging technologies, research studies, and best practices in water quality management. Conduct research to identify innovative solutions and methods for water treatment and conservation.
  7. Environmental Impact Assessment: Assess the potential impact of water-related projects on the environment. Conduct environmental impact assessments and propose mitigation measures to minimize negative effects.
  8. Risk Assessment and Management: Identify potential risks and hazards related to water quality, such as contamination sources or natural events. Develop risk assessment frameworks and strategies for proactive management.
  9. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, scientists, and regulatory agencies. Communicate and coordinate with stakeholders to address water quality concerns and provide technical expertise.
  10. Education and Training: Conduct training sessions and workshops on water quality monitoring techniques, laboratory procedures, and best practices. Educate stakeholders on the importance of water quality and its impact on public health and the environment.

Desired Candidate Profile

Requirements: Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field. Previous experience in water quality analysis, monitoring, or related research. Knowledge of water quality parameters, testing methods, and analytical techniques. Familiarity with water quality regulations, standards, and guidelines. Proficiency in laboratory equipment and analytical instruments used for water quality analysis. Strong data analysis and interpretation skills. Understanding of water treatment processes and technologies. Knowledge of environmental impact assessment principles and risk assessment methodologies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and reporting. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities. Adaptability to changing priorities and project requirements. Fluency in English (written and spoken). Knowledge of Arabic (beneficial but not mandatory).
