Job description

The Rail Terminal Manager is to set up and manage the operational and commercial team comprising permanent staff and subcontract staff carrying out day-to-day rail terminal operations and stakeholder relationships. This includes designing and implementing an operation to meet challenging performance and safety targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead KPRT team in developing operational procedures and standards to deliver train terminal services.
  • Achieve targeted levels of productivity (moves per hour, cost per move).
  • Ensure safety of all staff through appropriate risk assessment and development of safe working practices. Achieve high levels of personnel engagement and motivation through effective definition of KPIs, setting of personal objectives, and use of appraisal systems.
  • Achieve target profitability for the KPRT terminal on a monthly/annual basis.
  • Ensure appropriate data is captured automatically and analyze it to identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, service levels, and lower cost per move.
  • Design and introduce revisions to operational processes, gear, and equipment to improve overall productivity and profitability.
  • Identify, specify, and introduce system improvements to eliminate manual processes.
  • Achieve full integration of ToS system with ER and port terminal ToS systems to maximize efficiency of global pooling of equipment, ensure full loading and efficient routing of ITV vehicles, and minimize double handling.
  • Work closely with rail and port stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the AD Ports Commercial team in securing additional volumes and growing the KPRT business.
  • Coordinate with the Fujairah Terminal management team to ensure FT adopts and works to the same standards and procedures and uses the same systems to achieve targeted volumes and service levels.
  • Prepare and assist in the Rail terminal annual budget.
  • Prepare and assist in management reports on P&L and operational performance.
  • Participate in management and strategy meetings as necessary.
  • Prepare and assist in internal audits.
  • Utilize a dynamic, collaborative, and mentoring management style.
  • Focus on definition and use of processes, procedures, and planning to govern the practice of port operations – safety culture, measurement of productivity, and relating productivity information to financial performance.
  • Be an excellent communicator, both downwards and upwards.
  • Understand the customer and their commercial business model to design operational services that add value for the customer.
  • Direct management of Rail Terminal Operations.
  • Possess broad ports/terminal operational experience across multiple sectors including Containers, GC, dry bulks, and bulk liquids.
  • Minimum 10-12 years of operational experience.
