Roles and Responsibilities

The Purpose of This Role

• Diagnose medical illnesses and provide treatment with focus on the overall health of the patient including and not limited to physical, psychological, and social aspects of care.
• Provide comprehensive reconstructive, cosmetic, and corrective medical treatments to patients according to current best-evidence based standards, using best judgement at all times and in accordance with Al-Futtaim Health Medical Staff bylaws and rules and regulations.
• Participate equitably in the on-call roster.
• Perform surgeries on patients who want to augment and/or beautify certain body parts.
• Perform various non-invasive treatments.
• Ensure that surgical equipment is sterilized.
• Follow up with patients and provide appropriate medical care.
• Explain the risks and dangers of surgical procedures to patients.
• Assess patients' psychological health.
• Maintain confidentiality of all patient information according to federal guidelines and regulations.
• Participate in the oversight and professional developments of any junior medical staff in the departments.

The Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge

• MBBS or MBchB or equivalent qualification from an accredited institution AND completion of specialty qualification recognized by Dubai Health Authority or Health Authority of Abu Dhabi or Ministry of Health UAE.
• Appropriate experience and competence in all aspects of Plastic Surgery.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, doctors, nurses, and other clinical staff.
• Certification in Basic and Advanced Life Support.
• Fluency in English, speaking, reading, and writing.
• Arabic speaking skills will be an added advantage.
• Excellent computer literacy skills are required.
• Publications in peer-reviewed journals will be well regarded.

Minimum Experience

• 5+ years of experience in reconstructive, cosmetic, and corrective medical treatments at a specialist level, since gaining higher qualification.

Desired Candidate Profile

1. Advanced Surgical Skills

• Reconstructive Surgery: Expertise in performing complex procedures to restore function and appearance, such as for patients with burns, congenital deformities, trauma, or after cancer surgery (e.g., breast reconstruction after mastectomy).
• Cosmetic (Aesthetic) Surgery: Proficiency in performing procedures to enhance appearance, such as facelifts, rhinoplasty (nose jobs), breast augmentation, liposuction, and tummy tucks.
• Minimally Invasive Procedures: Familiarity with non-invasive or minimally invasive techniques such as Botox, dermal fillers, and laser treatments to address aesthetic concerns.
• Microvascular Surgery: Ability to perform delicate surgeries involving small blood vessels, particularly important in reconstructive surgeries, such as skin grafts or tissue transfer.
• Fat Grafting: Expertise in liposuction and fat transfer techniques for both reconstructive and cosmetic purposes, such as breast or facial rejuvenation.

2. Anatomical and Physiological Knowledge

• Detailed Knowledge of Human Anatomy: In-depth understanding of human anatomy, including the musculoskeletal system, skin, nerves, vascular structures, and facial anatomy. This is critical for both reconstructive and aesthetic procedures.
• Wound Healing: Expertise in managing complex wounds, understanding tissue regeneration, and minimizing complications related to scarring.
• Tissue Flap Surgery: Ability to perform tissue flap procedures, where tissue from one part of the body is transplanted to another, commonly used in reconstructive surgery (e.g., breast or facial reconstruction).

3. Surgical Planning and Consultation

• Patient Assessment: Conducting thorough pre-operative assessments, considering both the patient’s medical history and desired outcomes. This includes assessing the psychological and physical suitability of the patient for surgery.
• Personalized Surgical Plans: Creating tailored surgical plans that align with the patient’s needs and goals, as well as the specific challenges presented by the case.
• Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborating with other specialists (e.g., dermatologists, oncologists, or trauma surgeons) for comprehensive patient care, particularly in complex reconstructive or post-cancer surgeries.

4. Post-Surgical Care and Follow-Up

• Post-Operative Monitoring: Overseeing patient recovery and managing any complications or side effects (e.g., infections, hematomas, blood clots, or poor wound healing).
• Scar Management: Applying techniques to minimize scarring, including the use of silicone gels, pressure garments, or laser treatments, as well as providing advice on scar care during recovery.
• Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy: Coordinating with rehabilitation specialists to optimize recovery, especially in reconstructive procedures that may affect mobility or function (e.g., hand or facial reconstruction).
