Vice President Operations - Western Canada / Civil & Mining
The Vice President Operations is entirely responsible for their regional profit centre by directing all operations through complete business leadership to meet strategic objectives for growth and operational excellence, while prioritizing our human capital.
To achieve this, the Vice President Operations will oversee all administrative functions at the regional office, while prioritizing team cohesion and communication. As a substantial business development contributor, the Vice President Operations will lead regional bids and proposals and lead all project implementation activities to successfully satisfy commitments and align business goals with operational and project budget.
His main responsibilities consist of leading EBC British-Columbia in their efforts to become a major projects leader in the province.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB FUNCTIONS
Operational management
  1. Effectively plan, organize, manage, and control team activities (meetings / communications / site visits).
  2. Diligently and keenly work with the company’s internal departments.
  3. Lead and manage project teams in seeking and completing challenging projects.
  4. Successfully assess and manage risk.
  5. Create and promote team synergy in a collaborative environment.
  6. Clearly communicate roles and responsibilities to all employees.
  7. Oversee workload and ensure appropriate use of resources.
  8. Effectively manage conflicts and solve complex problems.
  9. Oversee efficient transfer of information between the Proposals department and construction teams.
  10. Actively participate in project constructability analysis.
  11. Promote team spirit amongst work colleagues, offices, and job sites.
  12. Manage project objectives and financial statuses.
  13. Sign contracts with subcontractors, in accordance with submitted budgets.
  14. Review client contracts according to company procedures and policies and submit to Executive Vice President for approval.
  15. Work directly with clients to ensure projects meet expectations.
  16. Frequently visit construction sites.
  17. Oversee procedure compliance.
  18. Optimize processes.
  19. Prepare annual regional budgets and mid-year forecasts.
  20. Manage all Health & Safety components.
  21. Oversee quality management implementation and monitoring.
Human Capital Management

  2. Manage and negotiate salaries, bonuses and oversee team payroll.
  3. Actively participate in career development of subordinate team and managers through training, development goals, and performance reviews.

Business Development
  1. Establish and maintain strategic business relationships with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  2. Seek advance knowledge of upcoming projects and strategically plan business alliances (team, association, exclusivity, etc.).
  3. Lead, collaborate and/or develop offer of services and proposals.
  4. Possess strong interviewing and business development skills with potential customers.
  5. Identify and assist by leading new business opportunities, presentations, attend client conferences and dinners.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS
  1. 20+ years experience in the construction industry;
  2. Previous civil experience specifically in heavy civil.
  3. University Degree/Technology Diploma in Engineering, or a combination of education and industry experience;
  4. A proven track record of project success and team leadership;
  5. Strong knowledge of infrastructure such as: Infrastructures, grade separation, bridges, dams, storm water management pond, in-water work, trackwork and grading.
  6. Good knowledge in geology and geotechnical;
  7. Strong experience delivering large scale projects within a partnership environment;
  8. Strong experience with alternative delivery mode projects (Design Build, P3)
  9. Strong knowledge of financial management, as well as building codes and associated legislation;
  10. Good computer skills and previous experience with scheduling software;
  11. Frequent travel is required;
