Middle Office Manager - Oil Trading

Senior Middle Officer/Product Control Manager & Commercial Control, Market Risk, Compliance, Commodities, Oil & Gas Trading, Energy, Location: Dubai, UAE.

We are currently working with an energy commodities trading company, based in Dubai, who are seeking an experienced Senior Middle Office & Commercial Control. This position is critical in managing the operational activities within the commodity trading business. The person will ensure efficient and effective trade execution, risk management, and trade support functions.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the trade execution process, ensuring timely and accurate capture, confirmation, and settlement of commodity trades, while coordinating with traders, brokers, and stakeholders.
• Develop and implement risk management strategies to identify, measure, and mitigate risks, while monitoring market trends and providing recommendations to senior management.
• Streamline operational processes, systems, and controls within the middle office, focusing on efficiency, automation, and reducing operational risks.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, updating processes and management with relevant regulations.
• Manage pre-transaction validation and post-transaction monitoring to meet company and regulatory requirements, with a focus on product sales, shipment management, and accurate forecasting for portfolios like Gasoil, Fuel Oil, and Naphtha.
• Provide timely and accurate reporting of positions, PnL, MtM, pricing, and risk exposures to traders and management, ensuring consistency across desks.
• Ensure accurate transaction processing and data quality through reconciliations.
• Collaborate closely with market risk analysts and foster a team-oriented work environment.
• Conduct market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, competitor activities, and economic factors influencing the commodity industry.
• Develop strategies to identify growth opportunities and emerging markets, while monitoring market dynamics, pricing trends, and regulatory shifts.
• Work cross-functionally to provide insights on pricing strategies, risk management, and supply chain optimization.
• Implement forecasting models to anticipate market fluctuations and guide strategic decisions.
• Stay informed on industry advancements and market trends to maintain a competitive edge.
• Prepare reports, dashboards, and presentations for senior management and key stakeholders.
• Build and maintain relationships with industry experts, research institutions, and external partners to enhance market intelligence.

Skill & Requirements

Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Master's degree or MBA is preferred.
• 5-10+ years of experience in middle office operations in the commodity trading industry, with a strong understanding of middle office functions and processes and five years of experience equivalent to the role.

Technical:

• Proficient in using relevant technology platforms and building trading systems implementations such as ION Aspect CTRM. (working with developers)
• Coding / IT Skills (via Bloomberg, excel VBA, R mark down, and Python) and implementation of various suitable risk control tools (via POWER BI, Excel VBA and Python).
• Strong understanding of trade support processes, risk management frameworks, and operational controls.
• In-depth knowledge of commodity markets, trading instruments, and associated regulatory requirements.
• Develop strategy, goals and objectives, business plans, specialization, and organizational structure of the company.
• Knowledgeable in any relevant regulatory legislation.
