Receive and segregate all laboratory samples to the designated sub department.
Update the sample tracking status on the LIS system.
Apply safety measures when receiving and transporting samples inside the laboratory.
Participate in the monthly statistics task assigned by the laboratory manager.
Operate office equipment such as photocopier and fax machine.
Answer the telephone, screen callers, take and relay messages, respond to telephone inquiries including substantive questions not requiring technical knowledge, and greet visitors.
Communicate orally and electronically with other hospital departments.
Interpret and transcribe dictation by pathologists (if needed).
Adhere to policies and procedures, quality assurance/control programs, safety, infection control, and environment standards in the performance of duty.
Transcribe medical dictation to provide a permanent record of patient care using the formats (if needed).
Demonstrate an understanding of the medical-legal implications and responsibilities related to the transcription of patient records to protect the patient and the institution, and maintain confidentiality of matters relating to patients.
Maintain an effective written and oral communication system that assures prompt and accurate patient results reporting system, as well as delivering results (reports) and effective exchange of information with laboratory sections and other hospital departments.
Operate designated word processing, dictation, and transcription equipment as directed to complete assignments.
Maintain accuracy of assigned laboratory requisitions and reports.
Expand job-related knowledge and skills to improve performance and adjust to change.
Clean equipment and working areas as per infection control policies.
Maintain required records and reports, as well as established procedures for the retention of laboratory records and materials as required.
Enter data and results as needed into the computer and/or ensure that the communication between equipment and computer generating results is working.
Adhere to infection control policies & protocols including the appropriate use of PPE.
