The role?
The Senior Project Engineer is a key role within an offshore crane maintenance service company, responsible for overseeing the technical and operational execution of projects related to the maintenance, repair, and upgrade of offshore cranes and lifting equipment. The role ensures project objectives are met on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety, quality, and industry standards. The ideal candidate possesses strong engineering expertise, leadership skills, and in-depth knowledge of offshore crane systems and the oil and gas sector.
Main Responsibilities & Key Result Areas
Project Management:
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of offshore crane maintenance projects.
- Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and schedules in coordination with stakeholders.
- Manage project budgets, ensuring cost control and reporting on financial performance.
- Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
- Completion of purchase requisitions.
- Arrange equipment dispatch and transportation.
- Preparation of engineering invoice drafts and financial control of assigned projects.
- Provide support to Contract Representative / Company Lifting Team.
- Provide weekly report to client representatives for updated status of work carried out during the week.
- Prepare and maintain annual critical spare parts lists for all the equipment offshore.
- Follow up obsolete spare parts, check availability or equivalent and retrofit/upgrade/replacement of obsolete spares in concurrence with OEM.
- Conduct offshore surveys and write work scope procedures for major maintenance, upgrades and modifications.
- Identify & analyze reoccurring problems, breakdowns and malfunctions in order to perform effective remedial actions and trend reporting to minimize potential impacts on safety, environments and production operations.
- Prepare Implementation Work Packs, including risk assessments, procedures and implementation project plans.
- Focal point for major maintenance, co-ordination, report writings, troubleshooting, etc.
- Co-ordinate and manage procurement and inspections/tests at subcontractor’s facilities for onshore refurbishments.
- Prepare annual condition monitoring reports, for each piece of equipment which details laboratory based sampling analysis results for lubricant oils, greases, slew pinion wear, slew bearing bolt torque / pre-loading values, and slew bearing rocking motions.
- Prepare close out reports and inspection reports for all onshore refurbishments 2 weeks after works completion.
- Compile and prepare close out and inspection reports for all offshore and onshore refurbishment scopes.
- Ensure that all maintenance and technical documentation is completed correctly, prepare regular work reports and specific technical reports when required and maintain record of all maintenance activities for easy access to any internal and external auditors and surveyors.
- Carry out condition evaluation surveys and prepare reports for vessels, barges, rigs, etc. as designated by client.
- Conduct offshore surveys for preparation of lifting plans and maintenance based work scopes.
- Prepare lifting plans, method statements, detailed drawings and procedures for component installation, removal, etc.
- Prepare risk assessments for complicated and complex lifting plans and procedures, method statements.
- Equipment certification, availability & reliability tracking reporting.
- Periodical visit to client Stores to physically inspect condition / preservation of critical spares.
- Assist clients Crane & lifting Engineer in preparing study reports.
- Root cause analysis of failed lifting equipment components.
- Initiate Facility Change Requirements related to Lifting Equipment in consultation with OEM “as applicable” for clients review and approval.
- Be available 24/7 for critical activities when delegated to cover the EnerMech Representative role.
Technical Leadership:
- Provide technical guidance for maintenance, repairs, and modifications of offshore cranes and lifting equipment.
- Develop and review engineering designs, calculations, and technical specifications.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., API, ISO, LOLER).
Team Coordination:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, and third-party vendors.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers and project staff to build team capabilities.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates and addressing concerns.
Field Operations:
- Oversee on-site activities during maintenance and repair operations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Coordinate with logistics teams, including mobilization of personnel, equipment, and spare parts to offshore locations.
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and quality checks as required.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to optimize maintenance processes and reduce downtime.
- Implement innovative solutions to improve crane performance and reliability.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices. Maintain accurate records of all incoming and outgoing materials, tools, and equipment.
Essential:
- Education: Hold as a minimum a 3 Years’ Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent).
- Shall have LEEA-UK qualifications “Entry Exam” and 4 day Appointed Person (Supervisor) course by client approved Training Center.
- Have relevant oil & gas offshore and onshore lifting related experience of not less than 8 years in the same area of application.
- Be able to write Lifting plans, create, review and revise lifting operation plan/procedures (LOP), and risk assessments for all lifting operation categories (routine, simple complicated & complex lift), supervise and execute critical lifting.
- Be able to design and prepare drawings for all types of lifting plans categories and procedures in line with Company standards and requirements.
- Operational use and awareness of Lifting Equipment Regulations, and all relevant client Codes/Standards for Inspection and Certification requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
- Certifications in offshore safety training, such as BOSIET or FOET.
- Experience with digital tools for asset management and predictive maintenance.
