Job description

The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for managing, troubleshooting, and upgrading corporate IT systems and networks. This role ensures the smooth operation of IT services, supports end-users, and maintains optimal system performance, with a strong focus on security, cloud services, and system automation.

Must Have Responsibilities:

  1. System Management:
    1. Install, configure, and maintain servers, networks, and related technology.
    2. Perform regular system updates, upgrades, and patch management.
    3. Monitor system performance and ensure high availability and reliability.
    4. Optimize and automate routine tasks using scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) or orchestration tools.
    5. Manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and ensure proper cloud governance.
  2. Network Administration:
    1. Manage and configure network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers).
    2. Troubleshoot network issues and ensure network security through firewall rules, IDS/IPS, and network monitoring.
    3. Maintain VPN connections, remote access solutions, and secure network communication.
    4. Implement SD-WAN for efficient multi-location connectivity.
    5. Monitor and manage bandwidth usage, network capacity planning, and quality of service (QoS).
  3. User Support:
    1. Provide tier-2 and tier-3 technical support to end-users for hardware, software, and network issues.
    2. Maintain an IT helpdesk and manage ticketing systems.
    3. Train users on new systems, tools, and applications, ensuring proper IT policy compliance.
  4. Security:
    1. Implement and manage comprehensive security policies and procedures.
    2. Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing.
    3. Manage antivirus, anti-malware, and endpoint detection & response (EDR) solutions.
    4. Implement multi-factor authentication (MFA), identity and access management (IAM), and security information and event management (SIEM) solutions.
    5. Ensure compliance with relevant security frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA).
  5. Backup and Recovery:
    1. Develop and maintain backup, disaster recovery (DR), and business continuity plans.
    2. Perform regular backups, ensure data integrity, and test recovery strategies.
    3. Manage cloud-based backup solutions and ensure backup replication across multiple geographic locations.
    4. Implement automated disaster recovery drills to minimize downtime.
  6. Documentation:
    1. Maintain accurate and up-to-date IT documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    2. Document changes and updates to the IT environment, ensuring transparency and compliance with IT audit standards.
    3. Maintain comprehensive documentation for security protocols and incident response.
  7. Project Management:
    1. Plan, lead, and execute IT projects, including hardware and software rollouts, system upgrades, and migrations.
    2. Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and cross-functional teams to implement projects.
    3. Ensure IT projects are completed on time, within scope, and under budget.
    4. Lead cloud migration initiatives and manage hybrid infrastructure setups.
  8. Automation and Monitoring:
    1. Implement and maintain monitoring tools for systems, networks, and security (e.g., Zabbix, SolarWinds, Nagios).
    2. Automate system provisioning, backups, and security compliance checks using DevOps practices.
    3. Set up automated alerts and notifications for system failures, resource utilization, and security breaches.

Must Have Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.
  • Experience with virtualization (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud computing (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms (Windows, Linux, macOS).
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) are a plus.
