Position Summary:

The Head of Compliance Operations and Strategy is a senior leader responsible for keeping updated and monitoring the operational framework that ensures VEON’s Ethics & Compliance (E&C) function is aligned with the company’s strategic objectives and evolving industry standards. Also, acting as Chief of Staff to the Global Head of Ethics and Compliance, this role manages the compliance function’s budget, resources, and performance metrics. The Head of Compliance Operations and Strategy plays a pivotal role in maintaining a forward-looking approach to compliance and the program, integrating best practices, and ensuring that the function adapts to emerging regulatory trends and technological advancements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Alignment and Innovation: Update and monitor the operational framework that aligns compliance activities with the strategic goals of VEON. Actively monitor industry developments to incorporate innovative practices that keep VEON’s compliance program proactive and adaptable.
  • Proactive Policy Development: Lead the development and refinement of compliance policies and processes, ensuring they incorporate industry best practices and are adaptable to future regulatory changes.
  • Cross-functional Coordination: Coordinate and align compliance initiatives across business units and OpCos to ensure consistent application of compliance standards, supporting the Global Head’s vision for a unified and agile compliance function.
  • Risk Management and Controls: Collaborate with the Risk and Controls Lead to develop and implement forward-thinking risk management and control strategies that mitigate emerging compliance risks and shape the companies program.
  • Data-driven Insights: Leverage data analytics to gain insights into compliance performance and emerging risk areas, helping to refine the compliance function’s strategic direction and reporting key findings to the Global Head.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and performance metrics within the E&C function to ensure resources are effectively deployed to support strategic goals and emerging priorities.
  • Supporting the Global Head’s Strategy: The Head of Compliance Operations and Strategy supports the Global Head by ensuring the E&C function is not only operationally efficient but also ahead of the curve in adopting best practices and new regulatory standards. By continuously monitoring industry trends and integrating cutting-edge compliance solutions, this role enables VEON to maintain a proactive and agile compliance posture.

Critical Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in compliance operations, strategic planning, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in managing budgets, resources, and performance metrics.
  • Demonstrated expertise in monitoring and integrating industry best practices into compliance operations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing best practices.
  • Expertise in compliance operations and risk management, with a deep understanding of emerging compliance trends.
  • Excellent leadership, project management, and cross-functional coordination skills.
