FX Proprietary Trader

Our client, a fast-growing alternative investment manager, is looking to hire an FX Proprietary Trader to join their investment team. Reporting directly to the CIO, this role focuses on short-term trading strategies, with an average trade time horizon of 1-2 days (as opposed to longer-term strategies driven by macro fundamentals).

The ideal candidate will have a proven multi-year track record of pnl generation and will specialize in technical analysis and the recognition of short-term market moves, rather than trading around medium-to-long-term macro fundamentals. The role involves trading major, liquid FX pairs (eg. GBP/USD), leveraging a disciplined risk management framework.

With a structured, competitive formulaic payout tied to performance, this opportunity offers significant upside potential for traders who can demonstrate consistent results while wanting to scale up their own FX book.

Key Responsibilities

• Short-Term Trading: Execute tactical proprietary trades across major FX pairs, focusing on technical analysis and short-term price movements.
• Risk Management: Implement disciplined stop-loss strategies to manage downside risk and protect capital, with tight controls on position duration.
• Trade Monitoring: Continuously monitor market conditions, adapting positions as necessary to optimize returns within the defined time horizon.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the CIO and team members to align strategies with broader objectives, while maintaining a high degree of autonomy in trade execution.
• Performance Growth: Start with lower trading limits (e.g., $100k levered 20x), with clear milestones for scaling up to higher limits (e.g., $1M-$2M) based on performance.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: Proven track of prop pnl generation in FX trading, with a focus on major FX pairs. Experience in short-term trading strategies is essential.
• Technical Analysis: Expertise in technical analysis, with a deep understanding of price patterns, market momentum, and support/resistance levels.
• Risk Discipline: Strong history of disciplined risk management, including the consistent use of stop-loss strategies and a focus on preserving capital.
• Market Access: Familiarity with trading platforms and liquidity providers, including experience trading via bank platforms.
• Focus on Short-Term Trading: The role is suited to traders specializing in short-term market moves, with no reliance on medium-to-long-term macroeconomic fundamentals or views.
