The Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operation of all hotel facilities, ensuring the efficient and safe functioning of mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, and other hotel equipment. This role ensures the hotel meets all safety, fire, and environmental standards while maintaining high levels of service and guest satisfaction. The Director of Engineering manages the engineering team, prioritizes tasks, handles budgeting and documentation, and implements initiatives to improve operational efficiency and sustainability.
As Director of Engineering, you will:
Oversee day-to-day operations of the engineering department, ensuring smooth functioning of all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and related systems.
Conduct regular inspections of the property to ensure proper maintenance and compliance with health, safety, and fire regulations.
Manage the preventive maintenance program, ensuring the hotel's equipment and systems are regularly serviced to prevent failures.
Assign and monitor duties to maintenance staff, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
Manage and update technical documentation, including drawings, manuals, maintenance logs, and equipment inventories.
Oversee energy management efforts, implementing energy-saving plans and conducting audits to reduce energy consumption.
Ensure the hotel meets Hilton's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals, promoting sustainability initiatives such as water conservation and waste reduction.
Respond to guest maintenance requests and ensure all systems contribute to a positive guest experience.
Lead installation and upgrades of equipment, managing all aspects of new installations.
Ensure safety protocols and emergency response plans are in place, including regular fire drills and safety checks.
Perform other tasks and responsibilities as directed by the hotel’s senior management team.
Provide on-call support for emergency maintenance needs.
Oversee the cleanliness and organization of all machinery, equipment, and plant rooms.
Ensure life-saving equipment is maintained and readily available.
Actively participate in the Hilton CARE committee, supporting initiatives related to the hotel’s community, team, and guest service projects.
Collaborate with other department heads to ensure cross-departmental communication and coordination for smooth hotel operations.
Support sustainability and environmental goals by overseeing compliance with environmental regulations and implementing energy-saving initiatives.
Monitor hotel operations and provide reports on maintenance, energy usage, and sustainability efforts to senior management.
Ensure all administrative functions within the department, including filing systems, requisitions, and correspondence, are handled efficiently.
Actively drive Hilton’s ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals and sustainability initiatives by overseeing the implementation of energy-saving programs, waste reduction strategies, and other environmentally responsible practices across the hotel.
Ability to physically assess the maintenance of the hotel's structure, systems, and equipment.
Ability to lift and carry heavy items and operate equipment as needed.
Regular walking, standing, and the ability to work in confined spaces or heights.
Ability to respond to emergency situations promptly, managing resources effectively during crises.
Report directly to senior management, Director of Operations, and the General Manager on operational and maintenance activities.
Supervise all maintenance and engineering staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
Collaborate with other department heads to align maintenance and engineering efforts with overall hotel operations.
Liaise with contractors, architects, and project management teams for refurbishments, renovations, and new installations.
Create a work environment that promotes collaboration, respect, and teamwork within the engineering department.
Provide training, mentorship, and growth opportunities for all engineering staff to ensure high levels of job satisfaction and performance.
Encourage a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring that all team members are engaged and motivated to contribute to the hotel’s success.
