Junior FX / Oil Derivatives Trader

Location: Dubai, UAE

Job Type: Full-time

Job Overview:

Our client, a leading oil trading company are seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Junior FX / Oil Derivatives Trader. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of commodity trading, risk management strategies, and financial markets. This role requires excellent analytical skills, the ability to work under pressure, and strong communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning:

  • Develop weekly and monthly trading plans based on physical market conditions.
  • Assess margin availability and implement risk management strategies.
  • Establish predefined drawdown plans to mitigate risk.
  • Set up trading functions based on risk management principles.

Execution:

  • Execute paper trades based on physical contracts.
  • Place and manage orders for inventory and customer orders.
  • Collaborate closely with the commercial team on physical trade details.
  • Coordinate with middle and back-office teams.
  • Communicate effectively with brokers to ensure smooth trade execution.
  • Implement risk-avoiding adjustments to optimize trading operations.

Controlling & Risk Management:

  • Ensure all trade orders are accurately placed and verified by brokers.
  • Monitor and resolve mismatches between placed orders and brokers’ trade confirmations.
  • Assess and manage margin requirements for upcoming trades.
  • Monitor trade settlement processes to ensure brokers process trades in a timely manner.
  • Manage hedged positions throughout the day.

Required Competencies:

Technical Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a relevant trading or financial role.
  • Knowledge of commodity trades and futures markets.
  • Familiarity with paper and financial markets.
  • Understanding of clearing house and brokers’ protocols.
  • Proficiency in executing trades with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience assisting middle-office functions with reporting.
  • Familiarity with financial publications (e.g., Platts, ICE).
  • Strong proficiency in computer operating systems and office software.

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage stress effectively.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Quick decision-making in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):

  • Degree in Economics, Risk Management, or Business Administration.
  • Understanding of oil & gas trades and shipping markets.
  • Knowledge of financial mathematics of energy derivatives.

Training & Development:

Upon Joining:

  • Training on different commodities and trading strategies.
  • Understanding clearing house contracts.
  • Learning about various types of future contracts.
  • Exposure to financial reports from Platts and ICE.
  • Hands-on training with trading platforms like Reuters.

Ongoing Development:

  • Staying up-to-date with market trends and product knowledge.
  • Continued learning in fundamental and technical analysis.
