  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Desired Candidate Profile

1. Structural Design and Analysis

  • Designing Structural Systems: Responsible for designing the structural framework of buildings, bridges, towers, and other infrastructure projects. This involves determining load-bearing capacity, material selection, and the overall integrity of the structure.
  • Analyzing Structural Loads: Conduct detailed analysis of loads (dead loads, live loads, environmental loads like wind, seismic forces, snow, etc.) on structural components to ensure they can handle stresses and strains over time.
  • Modeling and Simulation: Use advanced design software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, Revit, or ANSYS) to create 3D models of structures, simulate performance under various conditions, and optimize designs for safety and cost-efficiency.
  • Structural Detailing: Ensure that detailed drawings and specifications are created for all structural components, including foundations, beams, columns, slabs, trusses, and any other structural elements.

2. Project Leadership and Coordination

  • Leading Design Teams: As a senior engineer, you will often lead a team of structural engineers, providing mentorship and oversight to junior engineers. This includes delegating tasks, reviewing work, and offering technical guidance.
  • Coordination with Other Disciplines: Collaborate with architects, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that structural designs integrate seamlessly with other building systems. This requires a high level of communication and teamwork.
  • Client Interaction: Engage with clients to understand their needs, provide progress updates, discuss design alternatives, and address any concerns. May involve presentations to stakeholders or regulatory bodies.

3. Quality Control and Compliance

  • Code Compliance: Ensure that all structural designs comply with relevant local and international building codes and standards, such as Eurocodes, ACI (American Concrete Institute) Codes, BSI (British Standards Institute), or AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) standards. This includes staying up-to-date with changes in building regulations and safety standards.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks in structural designs and propose solutions to mitigate them. This may include considering factors such as seismic activity, extreme weather, and long-term durability of materials.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct quality control checks on structural calculations, drawings, and designs to ensure they meet safety, performance, and aesthetic requirements. Review and approve final design documentation before submission.

4. Construction Support

  • Construction Oversight: While primarily a design role, senior structural engineers often provide technical support during the construction phase, answering queries from contractors and site engineers. They may perform site visits to ensure that the construction matches the design specifications.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Address issues that arise during construction, such as unexpected site conditions, design modifications, or issues related to material availability. Suggest design or construction adjustments as needed.
  • Site Inspections: Oversee the inspection of structural elements during and after construction to ensure they meet design standards. Conduct or supervise tests to verify the structural integrity of critical elements.
