Principal MEP Engineer

Principal Engineers have two primary functions in their day to day responsibilities. They are responsible, under the guidance of their respective Design Director, for the development and implementation of the highest levels of Technical Excellence within their delivery environment/specialist area. In addition to this technical role, they are also charged with assuming the historical HoD responsibilities for the staff members in their nominated Design Group (circa 10-15 staff members).

As well as ensuring technical excellence and resource control, Principal Engineer / Lead Engineer / Principal Architects are responsible for ensuring BMS protocols are carried out by their Design Group in accordance with the Atkins Design Principles. Whilst a certain level of autonomy is implied in their leadership position within a Design Group, a Principal Engineer maintains a reporting line to an associated Design Director at all times.

Responsibilities

1. Lead the development of technical excellence within a Design Group under the auspices of the Head of Design Operations and Design Director;
2. Manage the Design Group’s transition to a Revit (BIM) design environment, and adoption of the Atkins Design Principles;
3. Take responsibility for commercial management and technical quality of all projects within a Design Group;
4. Ensure that a Design Group works in an integrated and innovative manner that positively contributes to the core principles and the policies set by the UAE Design Centre Board;
5. Ensure that the Design Groups comply with Atkins QA/QC (BMS) procedures and facilitate the implementation of these procedures;
6. Identify technical training, development and support needs for team members.

Minimum Requirements

1. Degree qualified (as a minimum) in a relevant discipline
2. Minimum 15 years post graduate experience in a Design Group core discipline
3. Member of a Chartered institution (CIBSE/IET/ASHRAE or equivalent)
4. Broad experience and understanding of all MEP systems, with a specialism in HVAC, PHE, Fire or electrical engineering
5. Experience of Managing Multi-disciplinary MEP projects and teams
6. Complete familiarity with all steps of the Atkins design process from pre concept through tender/Detailed design to contract completion
7. Experience of working across various procurement methods (D&B/DBO, Traditional, Management etc)
8. Complete familiarity with Atkins site construction documentation, forms of contract;
9. Proven ability to manage and deliver technical excellence
10. Excellent team management and communication skills
11. Commercial awareness and Knowledge of the Atkins Commercial Systems;
12. In depth knowledge of the Atkins BMS systems and protocols
13. Experience in producing robust resource plans, programs and cost forecasting with a track record of delivering to program/budget/quality
14. Experience in delivering projects via an outsourcing centre (Bangalore/Manila etc)
15. Ensure compliance with ITTO and RFP instructions
